2022 NASCAR Cup Series Race Thirteen Kansas

The Cup race was boring overall, though at least there were a few tire failures to break up the monotony.

I’m not sure how much the dreadful television broadcast has to do with that. The radio broadcast is less boring. It’s excited, but not necessarily exciting. The television broadcast is pretty much consistently behind the radio broadcast when it comes to the actual race action. They were showing one of the endless replays when there was an on-track spin. During the various events that occurred during that last segment of the race the radio broadcast announced the incident before the television broadcast showed it. The major problem with that is that the radio broadcast tends to be half to a full lap behind the television broadcast. So the tv folks are consistently late in showing race action.

Dave Moody of MRN is waxing rhapsodic about the racetrack; which makes sense since he has had lots to talk about with the weird stuff happening during the race. The weird things include the Erik Jones 43 team’s inability to remove the right rear tire – they ended up having to cut the wheel off. Another oddity occurred when Chase Elliott (9) lost the left rear tire with the carcass rolling off on-track. Chase spun into the grass which was wet due to a morning downpour. He was stuck in the infield without a left rear tire to get out. A wrecker came over to tow him out and also got stuck. A second two truck had to rescue both Chase and the first tow truck.

Kurt ‘KuBu’ Busch (45) wins.

There were a few people booing Kurt Busch’s win super loudly. When the cheers came they drowned out the booing. Strange though – the loud booing while Kurt was standing on and getting out of the car.

Another weird thing, MRN brought up the time when Kurt Busch would win and get booed and they said that wasn’t today. Since someone was booing continuously while Kurt was saluting the crowd. I guess the MRN guys didn’t hear the boos.

The truck series race was another boring kansas race.

Zane Smith (38) said, “…At this point its all about building your resume”. The truck race was a exciting as watching someone build a resume. Zane finished 1.653 seconds ahead of second place.

One of the problems with the truck and Xfinity series is the drivers are only there to build their resumes. NASCAR should implement some age restrictions and other rules to eliminate that aspect of those series. If those kids had to run the truck series until they were 22 or 23, then run the Xfinity series for five years before qualifying for a cup series ride they would likely have to actually race in the series and build a following at the track – not just in the virtual world – in order to get a good sponsor and a decent ride. They also might learn to drive, and to race, and to give the fans something worth paying to watch. The fans might become invested in them if they spend some time in a series growing their skills and their fan base and follow them to Xfinity and on to Cup. Currently there are more gimmicks than drivers moving through the ranks. Some Cup drivers are starting to fall back through the touring series; sometimes into a series more commensurate with their ski
lls (or lack thereof); sometimes they’re just inhabiting a seat they can pay for, but not drive well. NASCAR would do well to have capable, talented, interesting drivers that actually aspire to the Xfinity series and to the Truck series; instead of a bunch of entitled kids using those series as a stepping stone.
