2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Duels at Daytona

Duel 1

Caution one – 48 tire – Jimmie, Afterburner.

Caution two Byron got Stinkhouse’d.

Caution three David Gilligan got Stinkhouse’d.

Caution four ‘It’ got cute and got turned. He tried to split the middle, realized he wouldn’t have room and would have to pass ‘Squinty-Douchey’, came up to avoid that and Jamie Mc was there so he turned into the wall

Blaney wins.

Bubba Wallace finished third.

Duel 2

Caution one Kyle Larson, That Jones Kid, and Matti Di collected in this one.

It’s a parade – a single file parade – the whole way. Boring.

Chase Elliott wins.

Next Race: Daytona

GO 48!!!!

2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series The Clash at Daytona

Congratulations to Alex Bowman in winning the pole for the Daytona 500 in his first year replacing Dale Earnhardt Jr in the 88 car.

Congrats to Michael Self on battling through and winning the ARCA race last night at Daytona. Congrats also to Natalie Decker on winning the pole and on her fifth place finish after overcoming adversity and avoid a couple of crashes. Same goes for Lelani Munter who kept it rolling through the grass to avoid one of the wrecks and finished eighth.

The lineup for this race was determined by random draw. Continue reading “2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series The Clash at Daytona”

Super Bowl LII

February 4, 2018
Minneapolis, Minnesota

Question number one – why? I’ve been looking forward all week to Dale Earnhardt Jr’s premiere on the Super Bowl pre-game only to have it sullied by Rutledge Wood getting announced as a part of the segment. Why???

It ended up being a Rutledge Wood piece with Dale Jr as his straight man. Thoroughly disappointing.

Nice to see 2017 Cup Champ Martin Truex Jr and Ryan Blaney on the broadcast.

Now we move on to another Rutledge Wood set up of the drivers racing something like inner-tubes with bottoms. Ended up with some really bad camera work. I guess they were just moving faster than the technical director.

Blaney won. I believe the segment would’ve been a hit without Rutledge. He tries to hard which makes me sad, uncomfortable and aggravated. Dale did okay – though I would’ve liked to have seen him take point and do it solo. I have confidence in his ability. Rutledge is someone I hope finds his path – finds the thing at which he excels – and pursues it. I will wish him well as he leaves the things I love.

Peter Dinklage – Morgan Freeman. BAM!!! I would be shocked if anything tops those spots!

Props to WeatherTech on their ad. Continue reading “Super Bowl LII”

2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Pre-Season Update Two

The Eagles have won the right to face the Patriots in the Super Bowl tomorrow night. which means the start of the 2018 NASCAR season draws ever nearer. While we’re waiting, I wanted to keep up with pre-season news.

Good job F1 on eliminating the ‘grid girls’. I’m pleasantly surprised. I applaud talented female athletes making names and reputations in vehicles in motorsports. Women are making slow steps toward equality in all employment – including sports. I retain hope that all sports will one day respect women enough to support equality by treating the women like the men providing the same opportunities – utilizing their hard work and talent instead of just using their physical assets to titillate. F1’s move is a tiny step in that direction. I hope they take further steps to improve the opportunities for everyone, including women and poor people, in F1. Maybe Monster will move into the 21st century and follow suit. NASCAR wants new fans without dropping the old attitudes and thinking. Since NASCAR has become so blatantly a marketing exercise, as opposed to a sport, they may be forced to truly embrace the diversity to which they give lip-service.
