The cup drivers are in the field, so this will likely be a boring race without much competition. The stages are 45-45-110. I’m anticipating a long, boring race unless, somehow, we end up with some sort of parity between the Cup cars and the rest of the field. The races without Cup drivers were more interesting, competitve, overall. I enjoyed them better than the races with the Cup drivers. I’d still like to see the Xfinity series go to different tracks more often – like they used to when I started watching the series – and race most of the season without the Cup drivers – to really establish itself as something different than the Cup series. Also I think it would be helpful if the Xfinity drivers were more competitive against the Cup drivers by the end of the regular season – showing some improvement. People keep saying the Xfinity series drivers learn from the visits by the Cup drivers. I’d like to see proof, while the Xfinity series drivers remain in the series and build a strong following that they can bring to the Cup series when they finally prove themselves, learn all they can, and move up. 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Open Race and Race Charlotte
Somehow I don’t remember the All-Star Race having an open race, so this is coming as a surprise to me. but then again all I remember about recent All-Star Races is how boring they’ve been. 21 drivers compete in the open with the winner of the two stages transferring into the All-Star race. It’s a 50 lap race split into 20-20-10. I’m guessing the winner of the race will transfer in also. I don’t remember seeing four open spots in the lineup after qualifying yesterday. There’s also a fan vote entry. I wonder if fan voting is still open. Pace car heads off. Continue reading “2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Open Race and Race Charlotte”
2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race Eleven Dover
Weather in the area in Dover. NASCAR is moving the schedule back in an effort to get the 400 laps in before the rains begin. ‘Kutey’ Kyle Larson will lead the field to the green flag. Lots of folks wearing jackets under the cloudy skies. The stages today are 120-120-160.
Kyle Larson (42) and Alex Bowman (88) have lost their car chiefs due to failing inspection three times. Both drivers will have to start at the back of the field.
Congrats to Johnny Sauter on a hard fought victory Friday night in the Camping World Truck Series.
Congrats to Justin ‘Dewy Alligator’ Allgaier on winning the Xfinity Series race and the big Dash 4 Cash check, barely keeping Elliott Sadler behind him. Good hard racing between the JRM teammates. Continue reading “2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race Eleven Dover”
2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race Ten Talladega
It’s a beautiful blue sky day in Talladega with temperatures in the upper 60s. A bit breezy with a 10 mph wind. Kevin Harvick will lead the field to the green flag. The NASCAR Race Day show was highlighting the desperate situations for a couple of drivers – Trevor Bayne and Ricky Stenhouse in particular. Instead of sitting on a set behind a desk FOX has Myers, Big Daddy and DW standing in the infield doing the pre-race show. Nice crowd in the background and beautiful sky. It looks like its more fun – and livelier – than the usual pre-race show. Nice to see them with sun on their faces. The stages are 55-55-78 for this 188 lap race. 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series Race Eight Talladega
Gotta love Alabama. During the ARCA race yesterday the camera shot of a wreck included a flag stand with two flags – the confederate flag and a Trump flag. Alabama. Bless their hearts. What I caught of the ARCA race was interesting. I came in on the end of the race – maybe the last 30 laps. The final lap was nose to nose racing. Zane Smith won by .029 seconds. I usually enjoy the ARCA race. You often see interesting, different and surprising things, and usually lots of action. During the broadcast they mentioned that NASCAR is taking over ARCA. Kevin Lee and Phil Parsons tried hard to convince us that nothing will change. Continue reading “2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series Race Eight Talladega”
