The trucks are rolling around Pocono raceway. Kyle ‘KyBu’ Busch (51) was leading the race and came into the pits before the end of the stage. Brett Moffitt (16) has taken his truck to the garage with engine trouble a couple of laps before the end of the stage. The stages are 15-15-30 for the race. Todd Gilliland (4) wins stage one since KyBu pitted and left Todd in the lead.

The race is rain delayed. NASCAR intended to start an hour early to try to get the race in before the rain. Since we’ve tuned in, following the British Open golf tournament, they’ve been in rain delay coverage. Unfortunately they’re doing something goofy with the booth switching Rick to pit reporting and much to my chagrin they had Dale Jarrett in the booth – which resulted in the muting of the chatter – and I think Stevie Letarte will be in instead of Rick. Two people who talk entirely too much and Jr, who can go when he wants to. I’m going to give it a try with the volume up, but I’m virtually certain the volume will be muted in favor of the radio broadcast. It’s telling that often the guys on television – describing action we can see – talk a lot more than the guys on radio – describing action only they can see. It seems no one is sure what the weather will do, though it seems they’re anticipating racing to the end of stage two. Rick says in 16 years of covering NASCAR its the first time he’s been in the pits as a reporter. I’m bummed for him for getting sent down like that. That said I hope he gets rid of those awful glasses soon and asks the camera folks to raise the camera about 1-2 inches when he’s in the booth. Both will help his on-air appearance and possibly avoid his getting down-graded to pit reporter permanently.

The stages for today’s race are 75-75-151. It stopped raining and they’re motoring through driver introductions. According to Letarte NASCAR is anticipating a 16:15 green flag – 20 minutes from now. Continue reading “2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race Nineteen Loudon”

2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series Race Eighteen Loudon

The stages for the race are 45-45- 110. Beautiful blue skies over the race track. The PRN crew are busy talking about what Brad ‘It’ Keselowski is doing like he’s a star of the Xfinity series or something. I hope they’re aware this is the Xfinity series and it would be great if they would highlight the Xfinity regulars. Christopher Bell is battling with Ryan Preece at the front of the field. The PRN guys mention they don’t understand why Ryan Preece doesn’t get more opportunities in the car with his talent.

NASCAR has moved up the start time for tomorrow’s Cup race due to rain in the forecast.

Christopher Bell wins stage one. Continue reading “2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series Race Eighteen Loudon”

Sigh, Kentucky, usually boring, hard for me to imagine it will be anything else. 80-80-107 laps for the stages this evening. Kutey Kyle Larson is headed to the back of the field for missing driver intros. Martin Truex Jr will lead the field to the green flag.

By the third lap they’re basically single file.

Green flag pit stops are underway on lap 42 of 267.

Martin Truex Jr wins stage one. Continue reading “2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race Nineteen Kentucky”

What was NBC Sports thinking when they put together the desk crew for the NASCAR broadcast hiring a ham, the stammerer, the yammer-er, and the ‘look at me I love to be on camera’. It’s like someone decided: ‘We want to differentiate ourselves from FOX. They have talent on their broadcast desk. We’ll go for the exact opposite.’. They were successful, though they’re breaking the streak by hiring Dale Earnhardt Jr. He’s a multi-talented person – unlike anyone they currently have. I love crew-chief Steve Letarte and driver Jeff Burton. I’d love to see them driving and crew-chiefing these days. I felt like Rick Allen was steadily becoming better at his job. His improvement came to a grinding halt, then reversal with his switch to NBC. I hope he will get back on track soon and one day become a quality broadcaster. The heat continues at Chicagoland. Several folks involved in yesterday’s ‘race’ ended up in the infield care center due to the heat. NASCAR has moved the start of the race due to forecasted storms. The high temperature is expected to be 91 degrees. There’s a severe thunderstorm watch in effect and the Weather Channel forecast is displaying ” A damaging p.m. thunderstorm “. Further along they’re predicting: Partly sunny, hot, humid; a severe afternoon t-storm; storms can bring flooding and damaging winds. The high temperature is greater than forecasted for the Atlanta area, though we’re in for storms also. The heat index is 105 according to the MRN guys. They are saying pop-up thunderstorms are forming to their west. Continue reading “2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race Seventeen Chicago”
