2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series Race Four Phoenix

Cars in the field: 38
Pole: Cole Custer (00)
Outside Pole: Justin Allgaier (7)
Stages: 45-45-110

Caution lap 29 of 200 for debris. Leland Honeyman (45)’s back bumper cover was hanging off the car after he visited the wall. It eventually flew off and was hit by Joe Graf Jr (38).

Stage One winner: Justin Allgaier

Caution lap 56 of 200 for a spin by Brett Moffitt (25).

Caution on lap 68 of 200 for a crash by Connor Mosack (24); he collects Josh Williams (92).

Caution on lap 83 of 200 for a spin by Josh Berry (8) with help from Sam Mayer (1).

Stage two winner: Justin Allgaier (7)

Caution on lap 138 of 200 for Gray Gaulding (08) tackling the wall.

Caution on lap 148 of 200 for a spin by Sheldon Creed (2).

Caution on lap 170 of 200 for a spin by Anthony ‘FastPasta’ Alfredo (78).

Caution on lap 177 of 200 for a crash involving Justin Allgaier (7). Brandon Jones (9) got into Allgaier they both saved the cars then Kaz Grala (26) was squeezed up the track by Brett Moffitt (25) sending him into Jones, Grala bounced back down into Moffitt then up into Allgaier, and sending Allgaier into the wall, before Grala tagged the wall himself. Allgaier is out of the car and walking with his helmet in his hand, followed by safety personnel.

Sammy Smith (18) wins his first Xfinity series race in the Joe Gibbs Racing 18 car.

The race was okay; not exciting; not very competitive; but not awful. There were enough cautions to vary the event. The 18 car seemed far and away faster than the rest of the field. It’s hard to imagine it was in the same series as the rest of the car.

MRN’s Jeff Striegle repeatedly said it was a whale of a race. What was shown on television was okay at best. Generally MRN called an on-track incident before television showed it, so that might have been the difference. It sounds like they were watching the on-track action while we were seeing things that weren’t as interesting more often than not.
