2023 NASCAR Truck Series Race Three Atlanta

Trucks in race: 36
Pole: Zane Smith (38)
Outside pole: Ty Majeski (98)
Qualifying cancelled due to rain.
Stages: 30-30-75
The track has been reconfigured.
New pit road installed last week.
Sunny, windy, chilly day. A cold front moved through after the rain so it is 49 degrees with a real feel of 46 degrees due to the seven mile per hour wind and 13 mph gusts.

MRN reports Mason Maggio (20) hit the wall and rode it, but the race continues under green.

MRN’s Alex Hayden complains about the trucks riding single-file around the track until a couple peeked out around lap 20 of 135.

Caution on lap 22 of 135 for an incident involving Layne Riggs (1) and Tanner Gray (15). Gray spun Riggs into the outside wall.

One lap to stage end. The pace truck had to slow the field to a crawl while leading them to the green flag. The pace truck was trying to avoid the stage ending under caution due to a safety truck on the track.

Christian Eckes (19) wins the stage.

Caution for debris on lap 38 fo 135.

Matt Crafton (88) wins stage two holding off Ty Majeski (98) and John Hunter ‘JHN’ Nemechek (17).

MRN reports on lap 69 of 135 that the inside lane does not work at all – “you will fall through the field like a rock” – “you will go to the back in a hurry”. A single lane track makes for a very boring parade.

Caution on lap 76 of 135 for a spin by Akinori Ogata (46).

Contact on pit road as Corey Heim (11) leaving his pit hit Colby Howard entering his pit.

Corey Heim (11) hit Nick Sanchez (2) and spun Sanchez out on the restart.

Sanchez says the truck just shut off on him. Corey Heim is getting taken to the infield care center.

Caution on lap 95 of 135 as Dean Thompson (5) hits the outside wall and rides it a while.

Caution on lap 112 of 135 as leader Jack Wood (51) gets turned by John Hunter ‘JHN’ Nemechek (17) while leading.

Restarting on lap 120 of 135 with John Hunter ‘JHN’ Nemechek (17) and Nick Sanchez (2) on the front row.

Caution on lap 122 of 135 for a wreck into the outside wall involving Carson Hocevar (42), Lawless Alan (45), and Matt Crafton (88).

Restarting on lap 129 of 135 with Nick Sanchez (2) and Ben Rhodes (99) on the front row. The choose rule sometimes provides an option for a non-top-two car, but usually doesn’t really do much for the event overall. It usually goes as expected so the top one, two or four cars race each other as they’ve been doing all day.

Caution on lap 130 of 135 for the tenth caution of the day as Carson Hocevar (42) visits the wall and drops debris onto the track.

According to MRN it’s a record setting tenth caution for the trucks at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

I miss Vince Welch, and Kurt Busch in the Truck series booth. Now that Jamie Little is there, I’m going to be all radio, all the time. She is awful and never gets any better.

Restarting on lap 135 of 137 according to NASCAR digital of 133 of 135 according to MRN.

Tyler Ankrum (16), Zane Smith (38), Stewart Friesen (52) wreck into the outside wall as they head toward the checkered flag. Ankrum turned up into the wall in front of Smith and Friesen who had nowhere to go.

Christian Eckes (19) holds off Nick Sanchez (2) for the win.

NASCAR affirms Christian Eckes (19) wins. They put the caution flag out shortly before the checkered flag.

Nick Sanchez says he got hit from behind so far it knocked the battery out of his truck causing him to lose power.

The Xfinity series race will start just after the top of the hour.

MRN reports Nick Sanchez’s crew chief, Danny Stockman , says Nick is the first driver he has had that is humble and have a dedication to learning to drive. Stockman was previously crew chief for Austin Dillon.
