Daniel Hemric (11) will lead th 38 car field to the green flag. Josh Berry (8) will start at the rear of the field after winning his first Xfinity Series pole. He hit the wall during qualifying and the team made unapproved adjustments to the car. Jeremy Clements (51), Akinori Ogata (13), Alex Labbe (36), Howie Disavino III (44), Joe Graf Jr. (07), David Starr (08), and JJ Yeley (66) will also start at the rear. The stages for today’s race are 45-45-110 laps.
Little that was notable or memorable occurs in the first half of the race other than Ryan Sieg winning stage
NASCAR Digital stopped on lap 104 prior to the end of stage two. The lap-by-lap moves when the caution flag comes out following the red flag on lap 125 of 200. It stopped again on lap 127 of 200. It started again during the caution around lap 144 of 200.
Caution on lap 127 of 200 for a crashing involving Josh Berry, Ryan Sieg, Riley Herbst, Jeb Burton, Brett Moffitt, Myatt Snider. Sam Mayer gets a little damage when he kisses the wall while attempting to avoid the spinning Josh Berry car.
Sheldon Creed (2) taps Josh Berry (8) and send him spinning in front of the field Ryan Sieg has no where to go and runs into Berry, then Jeb Burton (27) runs underneath Sieg’s rear end sending it into the air, the rear wheels were higher than the SAFER barrier. Riley Herbst (98) taps Josh Berry (8) then gets hit in the rear by Myatt Snider (31).
Red flag is out at 1623. Caution is out 1629
On lap 130 of 200 as they approach the retart Josh Berry is out on the car on the track. The car is smoking. The replay shows fire in the car.
Caution on lap 141 of 200 for a crashing involving AJ Allmendinger (16), Brandon Jones (19) and Alex Labbe (36). William ‘WilliB’ Byron (88) ran AJ Allmendinger up to the wall and into the Alex Labbe. Brandon Jones spins trying to avoid the incident after a hit from the rear by Brett Moffitt (02).
William Byron (88) is on pit road on lap 163 of 200 due to his dash going dark, though the car is still running.
Caution on lap 172 of 200 for Akinori Ogata (13) blowing up.
Unfortunately on lap 191 of 200 we’re stuck watching a driver’s hands on the steering wheel on the television broadcast. Terrible television.
Trevor Bayne (18) and Landon Cassill (10) are having a door-to-door battle for second position on the track and the television viewer is stuck watching idiot shots of a driver’s hands on the wheel. When that stops we’re watching distant shots of several cars – too far away to determine which cars and the shot doesn’t allow the viewer to determine the context.
Justin Allgaier (7) wins on his wife Ashley’s birthday. She’s not at the track today. His daughter is in a softball tournament and that’s why they’re not there. Justin Allgaier mentioned that he was a friend of Adam Petty who died at this track on the day Justin won his first race in another series.
Congratulations to Trevor Bayne (18), Landon Cassill (10) and Noah Gragson (9) on finishing second, third, and fourth respectively.
Congrats to Jeremy Clements (51) on a sixth place finish.
There was some good racing off and on during the race. I believe that was partially due to the combination of unanticipated wrecks resulting in random restarts, and the elimination of some of the usual suspects. That resulted in different names at the front of the field racing with the better drivers. Many of the wilder, overly aggressive, less talented drivers were in the garage or logging laps at the back of the field. It made for more interesting, more competitive racing that provided some excitement throughout the event. The race was mildly memorable, but mostly because it was so much better than most Xfinity series races this season. The television broadcast was less-than-mediocre with them spending a lot of time showing driver’s hands on the steering wheel for extended periods of time instead of on-track action. They also spent considerable time showing distant overhead shots of the race. They shots were so far away the car numbers weren’t visible. Occasionally they wo
uld intentionally and unintentionally show the relevant action on the track. Without the radio broadcast following the race action would’ve been difficult, if not impossible. The race action improved from around the halfway point to the end.
