2022 NASCAR Truck Series Race Eleven Gateway

Thirty-six trucks, stage ends at 35-35-90 laps, partly cloudy skies, and Cory Heim (51) and Zane Smith (38) up front; so begins this week’s truck race in Saint Louis.

Overall a boring race in stages one and two.

John Hunter Nemecheck (4) wrecked out, so there’s a possibility someone might have to (and be able to) race for the win in the end.

Chandler Smith (18) wins stage one.

Ben Rhodes (99) wins stage two.

Overtime after a spin on lap 158 of 160 by Tanner Gray (15).

The Xfinity series race is scheduled to begin in Portland in a few minutes.

NASCAR seemed to be trying to count off laps under caution to have this race finish ‘on time’. The race became more competitive in the third stage, so NASCAR seemed to stop burning laps under caution. Now the race is in overtime and MRN is explaining about the coming Xfinity series race coverage.

Corey Heim gets the early lead on a push on the inside row by his KBM teammate Chandler Smith.

MRN reports the restart is under review by NASCAR.

The caution flag is out for a wreck involving Austin Wayne Self (22), Tyler Hill (5), Carson Hocevar (42), and Lawless Alan (45). Hocevar lost the truck and was sitting sideways in front of the field. Tyler Hill t-boned the truck. Carson Hocevar gave a thumbs up as they were wheeling him away on a stretcher. MRN reports Tyler Hill was favoring his ankle a bit when he got out of his car.

The race ends under caution with pole-sitter Corey Heim (51) out front.

MRN reports the restart was judged good by NASCAR so Corey Heim wins.

I’m guessing NASCAR looked at the time and realized it was more expedient to call the restart good and get the race over.

The race was okay once the usual suspects were no longer at the front of the field. The intensity was good on restarts, but lacking once the leader would run away from the field. Rarely could anyone catch the leader when they got a little distance. There was little excitement overall. The race wasn’t particularly memorable. It’s only been a few minutes since it ended and I’m not remembering a lot of the race already.
