Last night’s Camping World Truck Series race at Gateway Motorsports Park was delayed for hours due to rain and track drying. This morning in Michigan the crews came on-air talking about it raining this morning. Again Race Day began with Myers, DW and Mikey, then kicked it to the Kenny Wallace and the sad excuses for broadcasters on the Race Day set. They seriously need to amp up the talent for NASCAR so it looks like FOX is taking NASCAR seriously, not just providing lip service to their contract. Kasey Kahne will lead the field to green today.

About a baker’s dozen laps in the rain began and the race was red flagged. There was talk before the race that it would be official at the halfway point. I would be so angry if I paid full price, paid for lodging, paid for gas, paid for supplies, taken vacation from work, spent my time to go to the race and it was “called official” at halfway. I understand that for NASCAR there needs to be a point it can be called when weather is a factor – but to the hardworking fan there needs to be something that compensates for the loss of the full race experience I’m expecting and for which I’m paying.

The sun is now out and there’s a breeze. The jet dryers are going. Kasey Kahne says there’s rain all around the track. He’s hoping it keeps missing them to the north and the south because he thinks the track will really open up later in the race. He wants them to be able to go the whole 400 miles.

After 59 minutes and 5 seconds the red flag has been lifted and the cars are rolling around the track under the caution flag. The sun is gone and the skies are gray again. There’s rain on the camera lens in turn 2. As they continue to roll around under caution, now on lap 18 of 200 a shower has popped up on the back straightaway. On lap 19 the cars are now headed toward pit road again because the cloud has reached the front straightaway.

As a person who saw Colonel Sanders in Kentucky Fried Chicken commercials as a child, I have to say I’m offended by the “return of Colonel Sanders” commercials that are running now.

Red flag is back out on lap 20. Mike Joy says there’s sunshine in turn one. The air titans are back out tackling turns three and four.

Congrats to Ross Kenseth on his first ARCA win and also to his dad Matt Kenseth.

The competition caution has been moved to lap 35 as the drivers have been called back to their cars. The caution is out after a 34 minute red flag.

One-to-go was called off when Alex Bowman lost a tire and spewed debris on the backstretch.

Darien Grubb, crew chief for the Joe Gibbs Racing Arris 19 driven by Carl Edwards, says more rain is coming, so they hope to get in as many laps as possible. We’re on lap 28 of 200 now still under caution but the lights are out on the pace car.

Carl Edwards leads the field to green on lap 29 of 200. The competition caution has been moved to lap 40.

Competition caution is out on lap 40.

The red flag is out again on lap 46 for rain.

The interesting thing is that typically when the jet dryers are out the drivers seem to be standing in sunshine takling to the reporters and once they get back underway the skies are gray and threatening.

Turns three and four are wet. Turns one and two are dry and sunny. The air titans are doing their thing.

The drivers have again been called back to their cars.

Restarting on lap 51 of 200 after this rain delay.

Kyle Busch hit the wall on lap 53 of 200 bringing out the caution.

Kevin Harvick said it was a downpour then and they almost wrecked. Kurt Busch said there’s rain on the windshield which means there was rain on the tires. He also said Kyle hit hard and he was really worried about Kyle.

Green flag is back out for lap 60 of 200.

Caution is out on lap 124 of 200 for debris in turn 3. Field restarts on lap 130. Various teams are playing with gas mileage since the skies are threatening again. Darien Grubb said rain is 3 miles away. He left Carl out a bit longer to try to wait on the rain, but called him in when it didn’t happen. Kyle Larson is leading, but running low on fuel and on older tires. Larson has come in on lap 134 to get fuel.

Kurt Busch inherits the lead. Dale Earnhardt Jr is in second, followed y Martin Truex Jr.

Caution is out on lap 136 of 200 for rain. The red flag is out on lap 138 and there are reports of lightening in the area. Mike Joy mentioned there is a sever weather threat in the area and the fans are leaving the grandstands. The cars are being covered. The jet dryers are on the track. There is a downpour now. They’re saying this rain cell will be around for a while. The track doesn’t have lights.

It’s official, NASCAR is calling it. Kurt Busch is the winner of the race.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. finishes second. Martin Truex Jr finishes third.

Get well Sam Bass!

In Motorsports news this week:

<a
