It’s like a stupid game show.

There’s no doubt Kevin Harvick was really good this season, but his Chase race was less than it should’ve been. I’m happy for KHarv. He worked hard for it, but I would’ve preferred to see him win by really competing head to head in the final four or five races against the best this year instead of against Joey Logano and the luckiest this year.

Kevin has started out as a gracious champion. I look forward to his championship reign. I just hope NASCAR doesn’t get so entrenched in proving that this format is good that they don’t tweak the format to make it less affected by luck. I realized if Newman would’ve been crowned champ I couldn’t have continued watching NASCAR next season. I would’ve been so disgusted. Its funny Newman mentioned that he could’ve risked wrecking Kevin to possibly pass him, but he decided he wouldn’t want Kevin to do that to him to win. That’s surprising. Newman didn’t mind wrecking Larson last week to get into this position and certainly had no problem with being crowned champion without winning a race. If he would’ve gotten it, it would’ve been beyond pathetic and definitely a case of NASCAR rewarding bad behaviour. They’ve been doing that recently more than a little – both Keselowski and Kenseth have benefitted from that. It needs to stop.

As Nicole said he’s the champion, but this is the first time all season he’s been P1. That just doesn’t say much about this format.

Joey had a wonderful season, but lost it all with one bad pit stop. I was afraid something like that would happen to both he and Happy and it would be the battle of the also rans for the trophy.

Interesting that the folks on the ESPN desk are saying the format drew in people who weren’t NASCAR fans. Great, you create an audience of people not interested in the sport. See WWE and WCW in the 1990s for an example of how long those fans stay around once the gimmicks become the norm.

Something is going on with the 48. They just said Robin Pemberton is down at the hauler to address the situation with the 48. Chadley and the VP of Competition and the Competition Director were asked to come to the NASCAR hauler.

That was ESPN’s last race and it didn’t seem they gave a farewell at the end. Maybe they did it earlier and I missed it. I will greatly miss Bestie and Petree and Doc Punch. They have been an integral part of my love affair with NASCAR.

I’ve not discovered the details of who will call the races next year, but with Byrnesy’s illness – get well soon – and Bestwick getting the Indy races and ESPN leaving and probably taking Doc Punch and Petree with them, I’ve been afraid to find out. The few details that have filtered through have been disheartening, like Krista, McReynolds, Michael Waltrip, and Petty Kyle not having to find jobs at which they were adept.

In NASCAR news this week:

NASCAR Orders Knaus to Hauler.

Former Champs Offer Ways to Change Chase.

Gordon Gives Hendrick Motorsports its 200th Pole.

Ambrose Brings NASCAR Career to a Close.

Lawmaker Calls for Kurt Busch Suspension.

France Suggests Chase Will Remain Same.

Letarte Ready for Farewell.

No Need for Grubb to Update Resume.

ESPN Races Toward Finish Line.

Notebook: One Last Time for Fennig.

Harvick Enlivens Press Conference.

Next Race: Daytona 500

GO 48!!!!

Kevin Harvick is the winner of the Homestead race and the 2014 Sprint Cup Champion.
