Time for NASCAR coverage! Finally. I really miss the old days of Speed when we would have the pleasure of Truck or Nationwide coverage on Thursday. Flip channel to FS2 (or FS1, whichever). Danielle Hot-to-Trotta (seriously, what on Earth is she wearing? Did anyone tell her she was going to work – in a studio, not a club?) throws it to Rick Allen. Thank goodness no Adam Alexander this week! Hooray!! Crap! Petty Kyle and Larry McNuggets. Mute. Time to find something to do to kill time until Cup practice is over. Fox Sports, please, please, please, please, please, consider hiring broadcast professionals to improve your coverage. Let the days of the bellowing bimbos be a thing of the past. Let the days of the babbling ignorami (like Petty Kyle, Larry McNuggets, and Michael Waltrip) fade into a bad memory. I lament the fact that FOX has this much control over NASCAR programming. Third rate talent, leads to tawdry coverage, which does not attract the coveted fan-base. Maybe one day they’ll learn, or NASCAR will hook up with a better/classier option, or allow the fans to view the action without the aggravation of the sorry state of the television coverage.

Rick Allen and the gruesome twosome are history. JohnnyTV, okay. Philly and Hollywood! Phil Parsons and Jeff Hammond are in the booth. Hooray!!! Time to settle in for some enjoyable television – well, I’m sure there will be way too many FS* promos, but otherwise real NASCAR television.

JohnnyTV sent ‘Get Well Wishes’ to Steve Byrnes which left me wondering why. I’m a Byrnesy fan and miss him. Turns out he’s battling cancer and doing chemo. I’m sad to hear that, but wishing him all the best! That was nice, except for JohnnyTV’s sad attempts at humor. Cornball! But still a lot more enjoyable than anything out of Petty Kyle or Larry McNuggets.

Sprint Cup Qualifying on ESPN. The professional Cup coverage is underway! Yippee!! Happy Harvick has the pole. Jimmie starts 3rd.

ARCA Racing tonight, if the weather holds. At race time the skies are dry and Dylan Kwasniewski has the pole in his ARCA series debut. With weather threatening Scott Lagasse Jr jumped out to an early lead passing Corey LaJoie and Dylan Kwasniewski as they raced side-by-side at the green. 20 laps in LaJoie gets into the back of Lagasse sending them both into the wall. LaJoie’s team are working on the damage on pit road while Lagasse headed to the garage area.

Dylan Kwasniewski inherits the lead.

Second caution out on lap 34 of 99 as Mason Mingus and Roger Carter get together and end up in the wall.

On lap 46 of 99 Chad Boat blows up bringing out the third caution. ARCA has told the drivers the checkered flag will come out at lap 65 due to the storms heading toward the Speedway. I checked the weather forecast and an area including the Speedway is under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. The weather service is predicting 60 mph winds and penny-size hail and advise that the storms could intensify. Frank Kimmel made a pit stop for fuel on the first caution. The other drivers stopped under the third caution putting Frank in the lead.

Frank Kimmel surpasses Iggy Katona’s record of 79 wins as he wins his 80th race to become the winningest driver in ARCA series history. This is 79-year-old James Harvey Hylton’s final race as he has decided to retire. Frank Kimmel also wins his 10th ARCA series championship. The race had not started to fall as Frank took his victory lap. They are holding a Victory Lane celebration and the Championship trophy presentation indoors.

Saturday, Nationwide Race Day. Hooray! No Marty Reid. A total bonus. Yippee!! KyBu ended up turning Bradley K after a few laps of hard racing. Kyle said he got really tight and tried to turn left, but couldn’t and got into the back of Brad. Brad, of course, mentioned that he’s ‘not going to stand for it’ and that Kyle ‘has a lot more to lose’ than Brad. He said he guessed it was ‘one good thing about not being in the Chase’. So it sounds as though he plans to get back at Kyle tomorrow. Kyle mentioned that he had the chance to turn Brad at Watkins Glen, but he didn’t – he was the bigger man. He said he had “more class than that”. We’ll see what happens tomorrow. Kenseth won the race.

Sunday, Race Day. SHUT UP BRAD DAUGHERTY!!! Other than that, hooray Race Day!

Kevin Harvick leads the field to the green flag. Wreck on the first lap of the race including Danica Patrick, David Reutimann, Cole Whitt, and possibly Kyle Busch. Looks like Danica will be on the hook. Looks like KyBu just made an evasive maneuver to avoid the wreck by heading to the apron and ended up sliding through the grass. He’s a little concerned about the splitter, so he’s coming in to let his crew have a look at it.

Wow, lots of surprises in this race and quite a bit of action. It’s not the usual boring Kansas race. That’s a pleasant surprise. I hope the action continues, the surprises continue and a deserving team/car wins the race.

Since Danica there have been several incidents. There have been eight cautions, making that nine cautions, another occurred while I was typing the sentence. KyBu tried to block JPM and got turned for his effort. Mark Martin tried to avoid hitting Kyle and got a big piece of the wall in the process.

A caution for a Marcos Ambrose spin. And another caution as Kyle Busch hits the wall on the restart and takes Vickers with him. There are currently 68 laps left and the caution flag is still out for Kyle’s wreck. Kyle got out of the car, walked toward the infield as the safety vehicles were pulling up. The ambulance stopped in front of him and he opened the door and got in before the safety official got to the back of the ambulance.

Caution number 15 is out with 24 laps to go for Brian Vickers, in the 55, who hit the wall hard.

Kevin Harvick wins. Jimmie finishes sixth after developing an issue with two to go. Kenseth finished 11th and retains the points lead, but Jimmie is gaining. KyBu finishes 34th after his big wreck.

Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch spent some time after the checkered flag discussing what happened between them earlier in the race. It was a relatively calm conversation since Jeff finished third and Kurt Busch finished second.

In NASCAR news this week:

Truex sponsorship search continues without the possibility of a bailout from co-owner Kauffman. It seems that Rob Kauffman, the man with the money who put MWR on firm financial footing, has put his foot down on how much of his personal fortune he is willing to invest in MWR – or at least in MWR driver Martin Truex Jr. who lost his sponsorship due to the actions of MWR General Manager Ty Norris during the final regular season race at Richmond. Kauffman has moved to Charlotte to assist with the search for a sponsor, but has not committed to funding Truex’s team if no sponsor is found.

Jimmy Johnson added to his legacy becoming the winningest Sprint Cup series driver at Dover. Joey Logano became the first driver to win four consecutive races at Loudon. The 22 car failed post-race inspection though and was penalized. Piquet violated NASCAR’s Code of Conduct when he posted a slur as a comment about a Parker Kligerman photo. Inexcusable behaviour really. Nelson, take some advice: Be quiet and let people guess about your intelligence.

The Kyle Larson push continues. Is it a push, or a shove down our throats? Whatever it is, Larson will get a ride in a Sprint Cup car. His Nationwide has been less than impressive. Apparently, these days, that’s what’s required to put a young guy in a Cup car (see Austin Dillon, Kevin Swindell, and Alex Kennedy).

Keselowski re-ups.
