I found out Tandy actually has a real job and a real job title. She’s a CFO. Who knew? We never see her performing any sort of job function that would provide us with any idea of her position. Well that was a surprise, but then again her character is so negligible overall it doesn’t really matter.

Teddy in Rayna’s bed with that crazy woman – okay – he’s apparently cementing his position as person most likely to get reamed by Rayna’s divorce lawyer and Lamar (when he recovers from his heart attack). At the rate he’s going the guy who, seemingly, deserved to be Mayor in the first place will end up Mayor through Teddy’s stupidity. But then again who didn’t see that coming.

10 songs, not much to learn – hours before the show? Seriously??? She’s been touring for an extended time, it appears, yet she’s not learned how to sing one song yet. So what’s she using as her yardstick to measure “not much to learn”? That was just stupid across the board.

Yay Deacon for making a good decision – two – no three good decisions; for a change.
Good decision to send Dr. Puppy Whisperer back to Nashville with the puppy.
Good decision to tell Dante off, tell Juliette off and save Avery’s job.
Good decision to admit Rayna is family and go to Nashville to ‘be there’ for her.

What was up with Will, the new neighbor, jumping up onstage and on the mic to introduce Skeletress? That was weird – especially new guy in town being so comfortable with it all. And what’s up with Gunnar not coming to her side when summoned? Whatever. I’m still waiting for Gunnar and Will to finally consummate all of that heat they have built up. After the stupid train stunt seemed like a viable moment, but no dice. I hope to see it soon. Gunnar cheating on Skeletress with Will would be the only thing I can imagine that would redeem this storyline.

Dante’s sudden personality change is very “professional wrestling”. One week ago he was Mr. Got-It-All-Together-Zen-Master-Professional. Juliette comes on to him and suddenly he’s her conniving, manipulative, evil twin? That’s just stupid! His belief that he is qualified to be her manager and that it would be a good career move makes me wonder if he’s fallen off the wagon. There has to be – well I hope there has to be – some logical explanation for his totally insane behavior.

I wish Skeletress would stop rubbing up against Gunnar. It looks weird. He never seeks her out it seems and she’s always throwing herself at him in a very skank ho kind of way – like she’s the town bike trying to marry the town millionaire. Sad. Tacky.

My boy Waddy was on!!! Hallelujah!!! It’s always great to see him, though that hospital scene was dumb. Rayna is 50+ years old and knows about the affair, but she was acting completely shocked and confused. I would’ve expected her frighteningly immature daughters to react that way to that scene. They seem to be extraordinarily sheltered, home-schooled, cloistered five year olds. To me an appropriate response from Rayna would’ve been surprise at Lamar’s vehemence, but – cognizant of being a public figure involved in a public spectacle – she would’ve kept her cool and tried to calm the situation. Once Lamar had been settled and sedated Waddy would’ve given his speech and she would’ve calmly asked if that was why he helped her – not in an accusatory manner, must curious – and moved on with her life. I mean it happened forty years ago or something. Talk about old news. Are we supposed to believe that’s the first time Waddy and Lamar have been in close proximity since the affair??? Nashville seems to be a small enough town that anyone who needs a cheap apartment has to live near (or with) Skeletress, and everyone is connected to someone in the music business in some way, so how can we imagine those two ‘men about town’ managed to never be around each other in the past few decades.

Overall the show didn’t totally turn me off, so I’ll tune in next week for a new episode. Of course, another round of re-runs will result in my searching for something else at 10pm on Wednesday nights. I actually watched this one live, so my mute button got a lot of work with both Juliette and Skeletress wasting valuable time performing song abuse. Bunny, my TV buddy, fell asleep on the episode. It really wasn’t hitting on much. I’m a hopeless romantic, so I’m still hoping this show will improve and the female characters will be strong and capable and much less stupid/crazy/pathetic. I’m also a feminist so I’m always on the lookout for strong women who look and sound like women on television. I know, I know. It’s like looking for a Waffle House restaurant in England. It isn’t beyond the realm of reason to find one there, but it also isn’t likely. I’m not looking for perfection, just engaging, entertaining, fun, compelling television.

Yes I watched it.
