It took them a while to figure out they needed a shot from outside a car to show something a race fan might actually be interested in watching.

The race was red flagged for lightning in the area on lap 36 of 163 after a couple laps of caution for weather. The red flag lasted for an hour and twenty minutes according to the CW’s Adam Alexander.

After qualifying TRUTV showed a broadcast of the RedBull Soap Box Derby competition from Lithuania. Dale Earnhardt Jr and Mike Bagley were sitting in front of a green screen with a loop of a crowd walking displayed behind them. Bunny said it looked like an episode of South Park. Jr and Bagman were dreadful. The competition was insane. I could not imagine getting that assignment. We watched some of that madness during the rain delay, and missed the rest of stage one.

Taylor Gray wins in Stage 1.

Caution on lap 81 of 163 for a spin by Harrison Burton (25).

On lap 83 of 163 Adam Alexander giddily announced the race is official, so if there’s more rain NASCAR could call it. I don’t imagine the fans in the stand would be satisfied with NASCAR calling it since they won’t receive a refund for laps not run. Justin Allgaier (7) mentioned – during one of the rain delays – he has to be at his daughter’s softball game at 6:45 in the morning. He says he’ll probably be ‘team no sleep’.

Caution on the restart on lap 86 of 163 for a spin by Jeremy Clements (51). Clements said, “it felt like it run out of gas”.

On lap 87 of 163 Adam Alexander said they just got word the race would not go green before the end of the stage, so ‘we’re just going to ride around under caution until the end of the stage’.

Kyle Busch is in the CW booth with Adam Alexander and Jamie McMurray. Kyle is doing a great job. The other two are on the lower end of mediocre as usual.

Stage two ends under caution with Brandon Jones (20) out front.

Caution on lap 125 of 163 for a spin by CJ McLaughlin (91).

Restarting on lap 130 of 163.

They’re rolling around single file.

Caution on lap 135 of 163 for debris. Mason Maggio (53) is slowly rolling toward pit road. The debris appears to be a tire carcass.

Restarting on lap 139 of 163.

1214 eastern Jamie McMurray said the spotters are telling the drivers about lightning popping up in the area.

Caution on lap 152 of 163 for debris likely from the car of CJ McLaughlin (91) who heads for the garage.

Looks like the AI on nascar.com decided the race was over on lap 128 of 163. Nothing has shown up since then.

Restarting on 157 of 163.

Why is a replay shown larger than the live racing with five laps to go in the event? The television broadcasts incentivize viewers to just watch highlights since you see almost as much of the actual racing as you do in the desperately dumb television broadcast.

White flag.

Nick Sanchez (48) wins his first Xfinity Series race holding off Carson Kvapil and Jesse Love (2).

Kyle Busch is really good in the booth. Jamie McMurray is really awful in the booth and on the desk. He just doesn’t listen. He is so dedicated to talking, he misses a lot, and rarely says anything that enhances the broadcast. Adam Alexander is same story, different day – truly a known quantity. He hasn’t improved over the past decade.

They raced after the final restart. That was exciting. They lost me during the rain delay. They don’t have enough strong talent – behind the mic, nor behind the steering wheel – to keep me interested through the red flag period.

Next Race: Chicago

GO JR Motorsports 7!!!!

Cars in field: 38 Pole: Sheldon Creed (00) Outside Pole: Austin Hill (21) Stages: 45-45-73 Weather: Mostly cloudy, 81°F, Feels like: 84°, Feels like (shade): 84°, Wind: SW 3 mph, Wind Gusts: 6 mph

[4,8,9

post-5744","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-daily","category-sports","category-things
["GET
