MRN is turning the broadcast over to local stations at 1530 eastern – an hour after the race is scheduled to begin. They report the sun is shining as the track drying crews are working on the track. MRN will be back on-air at the top of the hour. At the top of the hour MRN announced track drying continues because another rain shower passed over the track about fifteen minutes prior. They will be back on-air at the bottom of the hour.<\/p>\n

MRN’s Mike ‘Bagman\/Baggie’ Bagley and Dave ‘Godfather’ Moody say the track is dry and ready to go at 1647. Steve ‘Postman\/Postie’ Post says there are still some wet areas in the pitboxes, but pit road is completely dry. Chris Willner says he echoes ‘Postie’ and he sees the window nets getting latched on the cars. They both mentioned the pit stalls are wet where the cars are sitting. The cars fire engines at 1649 eastern. Jeff Striegle says the cars were coming to take the green flag when the rain began, so the race never officially started. MRN is re-running the driver lineup. Congrats to Jeff Striegle on getting inducted into the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n

Ty Gibbs, Washington, DC – hmmm – ‘Little Joe”s hometown has changed. He used to be from the location of Joe Gibbs Racing, Concord I think, no Huntersville, NC.<\/p>\n

Current weather (1655 eastern): Mostly cloudy, 73\u00b0F, Wind NNW 5 mph, Wind Gusts 9 mph<\/p>\n

Kyle Larson (5) takes the lead from pole-sitter – based on metrics – ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11) in turn four.<\/p>\n

On lap 3 of 200 NBCSports has already started the idiot shots with a bumper cam shot showing the track surface, the wall, the bumpers of a couple of cars, and at times darkness when the car carrying the bumper-cam gets to the bumper of the car in front of it and the area underneath the car in front is dark. Terrible race coverage. The field has strung out mostly single file, with cars dropping down to make passes. Since they’re using the stupid camera shots the viewer doesn’t have the opportunity to see most of the racing occurring on-track.<\/p>\n

Looks like NASCAR digital is delayed. It has not yet updated since the rain it announced the start of the race is delayed, hours ago.<\/p>\n

Darrell ‘Bubba’ Wallace (23) takes over the lead on lap 35 of 200.<\/p>\n

Caution on lap 37 of 200 for a slide by ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11). ‘Desperate’ was racing his driver ‘Bubba’ hard for the lead when he lost the back end and slid into the wet infield grass.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 42 of 200 with Ryan Blaney (12) and William ‘WilliB’ Byron (24), Chris Buescher (17), Daniel Suarez (99), Brad ‘It’ Keselowski (6), Ty ‘LittleJoe’ Gibbs (54), and Harrison Burton (21), all of whom stayed out, at the front of the field.<\/p>\n

Blaney gets the early lead. There are dark clouds surrounding three-quarters of the race track.<\/p>\n

Ryan Blaney (9) wins stage one on lap 45 of 200.<\/p>\n

Alex Hayden says the wind has picked up. The sky in turn three is a dark gray. They said the weather doesn’t look good at the moment, though there are blue skies over the track and behind turn one. NBC is showing heavy rain outside turns three and four. NASCAR called off the restart on lap 50 of 200.<\/p>\n

At 1739 NBCSports is showing great views of the clouds over the track out the windshield of a car.<\/p>\n

On lap 51 of 200 NASCAR brings the cars down pit road as MRN’s Alex Hayden says turns one and two are sitting in blazing sunshine. Jeff Striegle of MRN says the fans are scattering for cover. 1741 the red flag is displayed. Teams are covering the cars. MRN reports the winds are blowing hard now. The drivers are out of the cars. 1743 eastern Rick Allen of NBCSports says its starting to sprinkle now. MRN’s Postie says rain is coming sideways at 1745 eastern.<\/p>\n

NBCSports’ Steve Letarte says if the math doesn’t work to reach lap 100 then there’s no need for track drying and instead they should try it again tomorrow. He says the rule-book says since the race started it will be official at halfway, lap 100. He also mentioned there’s a lot to letting 50-60 thousand people go, including people directing traffic and working at the track. Also Rick Allen says NASCAR has said if the race gets restarted the end of the race will be at 2020 eastern time.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 5 of 200 with Chase Elliott (9) and Darrell ‘Bubba’ Wallace (23) on the front row.<\/p>\n

At 1810 MRN reports NASCAR is postponing the race until 11am eastern time tomorrow.<\/p>\n

MRN says the track will take a full two hours to dry and with the scheduled end time of 2020, there’s no time for additional racing since there are no lights at the track (hooray).<\/p>\n

MRN’s Alex Hayden says the forecast predicts an eight percent chance of rain tomorrow with a temperature of only 67 degrees at race time.<\/p>\n

The first stage was blah until the weather was imminent at which point they raced.<\/p>\n
