Caution on lap 2 of 200 for a wreck by Ricky Stenhouse Jr (47) with help from Kyle ‘KyBu’ Busch (8). Stenhouse ran KyBu up to the wall. Kyle chased him down and punted “Wrecky Spin-house”. Stenhouse drove his wrecked car to Kyle Busch’s pit, parked it, got out and walked up to KyBu’s crew-chief and yelled at him, then walked back toward the garage area.<\/p>\n

On the radio interview with MRN, Ricky Stenhouse (47) said he told “Randall to tell Kyle on the radio (I’ll) see (him) after the race”. Randall refers to Randall Burnett, Kyle Busch’s (8) crew-chief.<\/p>\n

The teams have to change four tires at lap 100 of 200. For the past dozen or so laps leader Joey Logano (22) tried to put Darrell ‘Bubba’ Wallace (23) down a lap. Bubba wouldn’t let Joey pass, racing him door-to-door lap after lap. They raced each other hard, but clean. Joey put the bumper to him several times, but Bubba maintained control of his car and kept his foot in the gas. He was still ahead of Logano at the competition caution, staying on the lead lap. It’s been a long time since we saw two cars racing hard like that, especially the last car on the lead lap and the leader. It was a nice change.<\/p>\n

Joey Logano (22) and Christopher ‘CBell’ Bell (20) lead them to the green flag on lap 108 of 200.<\/p>\n

Caution on lap 117 of 200 for a spin by Ty Gibbs (54) with help from Kyle ‘KyBu’ Busch (8). The contact from KyBu did not look like the intentional contact between Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse earlier in the event.<\/p>\n

The next competition caution on lap 150 of 200 is not mandatory.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 123 of 200 with Joey Logano (22) and ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11) at the front of the pack.<\/p>\n

There are multiple side-by-side battles on the track. Unfortunately we’re stuck with side-window shots from the inside of a car, instead of covering the many battles occurring.<\/p>\n

Joey Logano (22) continues to lead at the competition caution (listed as stage two above) on lap 150 of 200.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 158 of 200 with Joey Logano (22) and Ryan Blaney (12) on the front row. Some stay out – seven, some pit. ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11), Christopher ‘CBell’ Bell (20), Chris Buescher (17), Brad Keselowski (6), Tyler ‘TyRed’ Reddick (45) all stayed out.<\/p>\n

Again, we have a battle for second, for a while we could watch the battle from outside the cars at a reasonable distance, then we’re stuck with a bumper-cam, followed by a close-up of the 5 car for no particular reason, followed by a side-window shot, then finally we go back outside the cars at a reasonable distance. Then we’re in a split screen commercial break and we’re stuck with a dash-cam shot from inside one of the cars for a while, followed by the battle between the Kyle ‘KyBu’ Busch (8) and Michael McDowell (34) cars, interrupted by a dash-cam shot of some cars – couldn’t see which, followed by a bumper cam shot of the outside wall, followed by a dash-cam shot of the outside wall. Horrible television coverage at this point.<\/p>\n

On lap 193 of 200 television was showing a bumper-cam shot of the track surface – not a car in sight.<\/p>\n

Joey Logano (22) wins the All-Star Race. The first win of the season for the 22 car. Logano led 199 of 200 laps.<\/p>\n

Congrats to Chase Elliott (9) for coming from the back of the field to finish eighth.<\/p>\n

Kyle Larson (5) came back to finish fourth.<\/p>\n

Ricky Stenhouse was indeed waiting for Kyle Busch after the race. They talked for a minute in the garage area, then Stenhouse swung on him. A couple of the crew guys, trying to separate them, also got into it.<\/p>\n

The All-Star Race was boring. The driver’s intros were fun. The fight after the race was the only memorable action.<\/p>\n

I am disappointed that NASCAR heavily fined Ricky Stenhouse Jr. for fighting, yet gave Kyle Busch a pass for intentionally wrecking the 47 car. The Stenhouse fine is well beyond what I expected for the circumstances. Several members of the 47 team were penalized. Stenhouse’s father was penalized. Lots of people related to the 47 team were penalized. No one from the 8 team was penalized, as though they weren’t there. Kyle Busch intentionally wrecked another driver on lap 2 of a 200 lap race. Chase Elliott was sent home for a race for intentionally wrecking someone during a race. Kyle Busch gets off without any punishment. Clearly the 47 team, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr, need the million dollar check. Another million won’t make or break Kyle Busch, nor Richard Childress Racing. NASCAR missed the mark on this penalty. It reminds me of Xfinity series incidents in which Ty Gibbs should have been penalized, but consistently was not. At times it seemed that allowed another driver to e
\nscape penalty in order to avoid fining Joe Gibbs’ grandson. The cost of Kyle Busch’s actions for the single-car JTG Daugherty team are monumental – a wrecked car, suspended crewmen, fined driver, and no chance to win the million dollars. Kyle Busch is allowed to continue to pursue the million dollars and no one on or around the 8 team is held responsible for Kyle Busch’s role in the events. It seems like punishing Ricky Stenhouse Jr for being the object of Kyle Busch’s tantrum. NASCAR gained a lot of publicity and, likely, some good video to promote future events from the incident, that likely would have been notable only for heavy rain if not for the fight.<\/p>\n
