The forecast is bleak for the Nationwide Race tonight, but the Sprint Cup race is a possibility. I hope NASCAR doesn’t go for the halfway is good enough. Jeff Gordon says he didn’t help as much with getting Kasey signed as he did with Jimmie Johnson and with Mark Martin.

I can only imagine what Pooh would be saying watching Hammond in his cowboy hat. He’s such a clown. It makes me wonder though how long this team will stay together on Fox DW and Hollywood Hammond. If they switch out Chris Myers – fine – but I worry they’ll put Larry Mc or Krista Voda in one of those positions and make it all painful. Fox has pretty much decided we’ll get you hooked, then you’ll stay, no matter how we change things. Myers seems to be an old fashioned tv guy, which is outdated these days. While I cringe at the horrible new tv folks with their untrained voices, I also cringe at Myers with his horrific jokes and booming laugh. There’s a lot to be said for the middle path – trained voices, not as loud, and fewer jokes by unfunny people. A girl can dream….

Kasey doing an interview with Krista – PAINFUL. I frequently wonder to whom she’s married, or who does she know to have the kind of career she has, because she’s awful.

ESPN had a good deal yesterday with the parade of interviews while waiting for the rain delay. Fox is doing skits to stretch the coverage it seems. Lame. And the Slice of Pizzi this week with Mark Martin was painful. Mark didn’t seem to know it was supposed to be a comedy segment – or his deadpan was too dead-on. He seemed to be the grumpy old man he is and Pizzi was struggling. Now we’re bringing Larry Mc and Mike Joy into the discussion. The talking isn’t building excitement to the race start. It is just making me tired. Any time Larry Mc talks for a long time, it really, really seems like a LOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGGG time.

Scott Speed is finally coming up in conversations regarding who will be the next driver to have a first time win. So very kewl that Spank Boy is getting his – I hope – just due. I’m trying something different this week. I’ve been occasionally complaining about the keyboard on my laptop. It is kinda small, and the trackpad is kinda large, so typing is often uncomfortable. Someone mentioned using a regular keyboard and since I had one lying around the house (since I’ve not yet hooked up that particular desktop) I’m giving it a try. It’s better, but not great, so far. Of course, this is an unfamiliar keyboard also. I’m considering using one of the others that I have around the house, though I think I’ll have to find a converter to make it work. Whatever, that is just an aside. I’m also using a real mouse too, btw. It has its good points and bad points also, but its the same situation – a new mouse that was lying around. I may buy a mouse and keyboard specifically for this laptop to resolve the huge trackpad issue.

An interview with Jimmie by Steve Byrnes. In the last shot of the track I didn’t see any jet dryers. That is a bit bothersome. Jimmie is going to be testing Tuesday and Wednesday. Byrnes is asking Jimmie about Kasey. Jimmie gave props to Mark and said he was excited for Kasey to come onboard. I love the way he does things. DW said he read somewhere that Mark Martin might want to be a car owner; so that might be a way for them to move forward with Mark. Chris mentioned that Chad still needs to sign his contract.

DW says that Jimmie reminds him of Taylor Swift. He then went on to enumerate the accomplishments of both and said neither of them get the respect they deserve. Mike Joy says it will take time just like it did with DW. He said the fans said a lot of the same things about DW when he was racing, but we look back now and say, Wow Darrell won 12 Bristol races, etc. Joy believes time will allow us to see how great Jimmie’s numbers really are.

Hammond is giving Kyle more of the “too much on his plate” thing (getting married, truck team, two series racing). DW says he thinks he needs to gain more confidence with his crew chief. Hammond called DW on shaming Denny into racing last week. I still think that was a bad move and he will live to regret it.

The Race Day crew apologized for everything they said about Joey Logano. DW said they threw him the car a year too early, but this is jus the payback and he thinks he will get in the Chase this year. Hammond said something about not being able to hold your breath that many times because this place scares you. Myers said, “I want to you hold your breath as we go to break.” Hammond turned to him and said, “You wanna step outside and say that?” I truly think Chris Myers doesn’t realize whom he’s dealing with. Hammond is a crew chief – not a tv person. He would not have any problems kicking his butt the first chance he gets. Myers tries so hard to be funny its irritating and the constant refrain of “I kid because I care” has grown very tired. I wonder if Dr. Jerry Punch would be interested in that spot. I doubt it, because he doesn’t actually call the races.

Looks like its still raining at the track and the jet dryers are not there. Myers tried to make a joke about them being there for ten years (time flies when you’re hanging out…pause…I mean having fun). DW said I don’t hang out around here, but I have enjoyed my time with the two of you. DW was not amused, nor was Hammond.

Now we’re looking at Big Wrecks of the past ten years. And the number one big wreck is Carl at Talladega. Number two was Clint Bowyer sliding upside down across the start-finish line at Daytona and number three was Michael McDowell’s rolling crash in practice.

Carl is on the desk and mentioned that he noticed they argue a lot. He believes the removal of the wing will stop these crashes. Apparently he didn’t see most of the others in the top ten, most of which were with the spoiler. Jeff Gordon was featured in two – one with and one without the spoiler. The one with the spoiler was wicked looking. The one with the wing was the Vegas crash that did in his back. There was another one with Smoke flipping down the track. I hope video of this shows up somewhere, because its a nice little piece. Carl said Brad was following him into the drivers meeting this morning and Carl almost tripped and he said to Brad, “You’re following me too close. You’re making me nervous.” They both laughed about it. He said they get along fine now. Carl seemed to have a nice time on the desk. They showed a clip of Carl laughing at what Hammond was wearing (when he had a scarf or ascot or something). So he had ot be nice and talk nice about what Hammond is wearing today. Carl says Annie and a sleeper, so he’s very fortunate. His only problem is that he can spend a lot of time just looking at her and won’t go to the gym as early as he needs to. Hammond asked if Carl wears a diaper. Carl said he’s going to let that go because he’s got a cool tie on. Since I call him pee-pee Carl that’s particularly funny to me. So after selling Scotts strongly while on the desk, Carl’s sponsors get more airtime since that segment is immediately followed by the Subway commercial where he’s picking up his racecar and a stack of tires with one hand.

So Denny is having a lot of achiness with the weather. He says he’s better than he was last week. He hoped it would take a big stride, but it didn’t. He’s only 5-10 percent better this week, rather than the 50 percent he thought it would. Steve Byrnes mentions that DW paid him a huge compliment and said Denny sent a message to his race team. Denny said he’s doing this for the long run. Denny has become friends with Michael Jordan. I noticed today, speaking of recovering from injuries, that Carl doesn’t walk the same since his injury. I was watching video of him walking and, though it was from the front, I don’t think Carl has that walk I so admired any longer.

Kyle let the camera into his motor-home to see Sam and one of her friends working out to zoomla online. He said they’re just finding the videos online and doing what they see. He seems to be in a great mood. He responded directly to Hammond saying he is overextended. He said they’ve run better this year than before. That time there was a guy in the room who ran out when they brought the camera back into the motor-home. One of the girls was talking to camera – probably Sam. DW said the young guys can multi-task well. Hammond said Kyle was right that he was the only one who had a shot at Jimmie Johnson at Phoenix.

Krista and Sam Hornish Jr are up next with interviews. Bland.

Hammond had a joke: This is like a bull, you’ve got a point over here (pointing to Chris Myers), you’ve got a point over here (pointing to DW) and a whole lot of bull in the middle.

DW threw out: You’re two rocks and I’m the hard place.

Berggren and Biffle up next with the interviews. Boring as expected due to the subject.

Steve Byrnes wants to know from Mark Martin what has him so excited about Kasey Kahne coming over. Mark admitted that he talked to Kasey last September about coming to Hendrick. He said he didn’t want to hear anything about retiring and he didn’t want to make a commitment past 2011 and he didn’t want to leave Hendricks without a driver. He said Kasey and Hendrick is a good fit. This deal is giving him the chance to live in the moment and know that the 5 car will have somebody better than him in 2012. He also said he really likes finding drivers for situations, so he might be interested in the management side of things.

Sometimes is amazes me how I get overcome with the feeling that I can’t believe a word Mark Martin says. I hear truth in what he’s saying, but there’s something about him that just strikes me as a liar.

Hammond is talking about the third team for Stewart Haas might happen now that the 39 team is winning. DW asks what about Mark Martin Motorsports, perhaps?

Chris Myers said they’ve requested a response from NASCAR regarding whether they’ll get the race in today – what’s the latest and they’re waiting for a response.

Jeff Burton lost his wedding ring Texas, but it was found. He was talking about the first time going around the track in a rental car he almost hit the wall in four in the rental car. He said the track was really bad and they were in denial for a while, but eventually then fixed it and they like the track now. Somebody is doing funny things with their hands from inside Burton’s hauler. They poke out a hand and point toward his head and due to the magic of television it look like they’re poking him in the head.

Doctor Dirt Dick Berggren with Joey Logano. Vanilla interview as it usually is with Joey. Joey mentioned Brandon McReynolds and Corey LeJoi as two up and coming drivers who are good friends of his. Logano is going to run Hamlin’s charity race, as it Brandon McReynolds.

Hammond brings up that Joey Logano was found by Mark Martin and was a part of the reason. There’s video of Joey trying on Dick Berggren’s hat. They’re also talking about keeping the Kenny Francis/Kasey Kahne combo together (while mentioning Alan Gustafsson and Darien Grubb as great crew chiefs).

They have finally called the race for the day. NASCAR has rescheduled the race for 12 noon tomorrow.

Also, it seems RC is trying to get his ducks in a row with Happy in light of the Kasey Kahne announcement. They asked Menard about Kasey and he said he’s been out of the loop all week with meetings and hadn’t talked with Kasey yet. He says they’ve always had a good relationship and he can’t blame him for seeking greener pastures, if that’s what he saw. He said he’s will discuss the situation with the Gillette family and they are focusing on Richard Petty Motorsports. DW asked Paul Menard about his romantic situation. He said he’s been with his girlfriend for the past six years and it’s coming soon.

Scott Speed co-owns an RC team with Kyle Busch called BS Racing and they have a team called Waste Management which has sponsored Grand-Am cars among others.

The ash cloud continues…I don’t think Iceland has been in the international news this much, ever!
