He said it’s the first time he’s raced on his birthday.

PRN’s Doug Rice reports the track looks new, it’s really black, where the track surface used to be gray.

Doug Turnbull is a pit reporter for PRN for the race. He flies a traffic chopper locally.

FS1 has Cup drivers Daniel Suarez and Joey Logano in the booth with Adam Alexander.

There are four Georgia natives in the field: Chandler Smith (16), Austin Hill (21), Ryan Sieg (39), Kyle Sieg (28), and Brandon Jones (9).

The clouds are beginning to move in here on the other side of Atlanta as they take the green flag. I’m about an hour from the track.

Caution on lap 2 of 163 for a crash into the outside wall by Joey Gase (53) after he is hit by Caesar Bacarella (66).

PRN reports Caesar Bacarella said someone got into the back of him and his car took a hard left sending him into the back of the 53 which PRN says is driven by Patrick Emerling, NASCAR’s leaderboard says is driven by Joey Gase. They show Patrick Emerling in the 35. After a commercial Doug Rice calls it as Joey Gase. Someone apparently corrected him to say it was Patrick Emerling.

PRN’s Mark Garrow has once again changed the driver who they are saying was involved in the wreck with Caesar Bacarella, saying it is Joey Gase. He said they’ve switched two or three drivers before the race today.

Unfortunately PRN also has Ross Chastain in the booth with them. His younger brother Chad is in his first Xfinity series race today. As if PRN isn’t bad enough, they have that self-promoting, falsely humble, Watermelon Boy rattling on and on.

On lap 8 of 163 we’re stuck watching the hands of some driver on the steering wheel. What terrible television.

The PRN broadcast is 1.5 – 2 laps behind the television broadcast.

Caution on lap 11 of 163 for a crash involving Kaz Grala (26), Garrett Smithley (4), and Jeffrey Earnhardt (44). Garrett Smithley was yelling at his spotter for telling him to go high. The spotter said they were wrecking low when he said it, then they drifted up the track.

Joey Logano is discussing the call by the spotter. He says he understands how it happened. Coleman Pressley explained that since the track is high banked you think of it as a Bristol situation where the wreck will come down the track, but it didn’t in that case. Pressley called it a 50/50 situation. Logano said you can’t see through the smoke, so you’re kind of depending on your spotter, but at the end of the day the driver is holding the wheel and can send it anywhere he wants. Suarez mentioned that the farther back you are, the worst your car drives. They had been talking about how badly the cars were driving prior to the crash.

Jeffrey Earnhardt (44) spins in front of Grala (36) who hits him and gets turned sideways and Smithley then t-bones Grala following the direction of his spotter to go high.

The sun has suddenly come out here on the north side of Atlanta. Looks like it was a momentary break in the clouds as it’s going back in minutes later.

Only seven green flag laps so far in this race on lap 23 of 163.

The lights are on at the track at 1813 due to the cloudiness.

Caution on lap 26 of for Kyle Weatherman (02) losing the rear end and visiting the wall.

Josh Wiliams (92) and Jeb Burton (27) collected in the incident.

PRN reports Weatherman said on the radio ‘something broke in the rear’.

Weatherman is the sixth driver out today as head drives the car straight to the garage: Kyle Weatherman (02), Jeffrey Earnhardt (44), Kaz Grala (26), Garrett Smithley (4), Joey Gase (53), Caesar Bacarella (66)

Caution on lap 31 of 163 for debris from Josh Williams (92) car.

I don’t understand why tv insists on showing people in the grandstands looking at phones and not paying attention to what’s happening on track. Maybe that’s their justification for showing anything besides what’s happening on track – nobody else is watching it. The fans in the stands look cold and miserable.

Josh Williams (92) is going to the garage for extending the caution period according to Adam Alexander of FS1.

Josh Williams parked his car at the start-finish line, got out and is walking across the infield to pit road. He left his car there at the start-finish line. He has to go to the care center. Car owner Mario Gosselin comes over and has a word with him before he leaves for the Care Center. Reed Sorenson is his spotter.

Restarting on lap 37 of 163 for a four lap run to stage end.

Sheldon Creed (2) holds off Austin Hill to win stage one.

Chad Chastain (91) and Patrick Emerling (35) crash on the final lap.

10 of 38 cars involved in a crash in stage one.

Wasted air time: a woman and a girl taking a selfie, a driver sitting in his car driving, hands on a steering wheel and a shot out the front windscreen of bumpers. Boring!

At 1835 another quick burst of sunlight here on the northeast side of Atlanta. The track is on the south side of the city.

NASCAR has taken Josh Williams directly to the NASCAR hauler. They seem to have kept him moving to keep him away from the media.

PRN’s Mark Garrow says the parking at the start-finish line has happened before on the Cup side, but he can’t remember who.

They are showing a woman tasting her cocktail. Seriously, what terrible tv. Now they’re showing a booth selling something – possibly drinks.

A bunch of cars stayed out, so the guys that pitted, like leader Sheldon Creed line up behind all the guys who stayed out.

Caution on lap 54 of 163 for spin and a a left rear flat and a flat right front tire for Chad Chastain (91).

Video a three women chatting and rubbing their hands together and looking cold in the grandstands.

TV is doing an excellent job showing the viewer why they don’t want to be in the grandstands of this travesty.

Restarting on lap 60 of 163.

Caution on lap 61 of 163 for Parker Retzlaff (31) losing a right front tire and visiting the wall.

Caution on lap 68 of 162 for a crash involving Connor Mosack (24) and Daniel Hemric (11). Mosack lost the back end and turned in front of Hemric who has nowhere to go.

More video of cold, bored children, and adults.

I see sunshine on the cars and the track wall. I guess they’re getting one of those quickie blasts of sunshine.

Brandon Jones (9) and Parker Kligerman (48) are on the front row pushed by Ryan Sieg (39) and Riley Herbst (98) respectively.

Justin Allgaier (7) turns into the wall, nailing it then spinning down the track into the infield from sixth position.

The stage ends under caution with Parker Kligerman (48) out front for hist first stage win.

Josh Berry (8) moved down just as Justin Allgaier (7) moved up and Allgaier turned himself on teammate Josh Berry’s front bumper.

PRN says, before the race Justin Allgaier said “we’ve had a meeting about it, we’ve talked, and we’re going to be more careful with each other”. A few hours later he crashes out off the fender of his JRM teammate. JR Motorsports has had a number of incidents with teammates crashing each other.

Justin Allgaier (7) said in a PRN radio interview from the infield care center he is “pretty critical of this racetrack right now”. He said, “maybe it will be better when the grip gets up, but right now it’s not.” He said ,”it’s not much of racing to [me].” He also said both of the hits he’s taken looked bad, but felt pretty soft.

He said he’s kind of embarrassed for the sport right now the way this race has gone. He said this isn’t really racing to him. He said it’s just a shame how the race has gone.

Logano said he understands Allgaier is frustrated, but now that they’ve gotten going it’s pretty entertaining racing. Within a minute tv changed to a shot from within a car looking out the front window and one out the back window and another gimmick shot instead of showing the racing that Logano said it actually entertaining finally. Then it was commercial time, and the split screen had the comercial on the big side and a shot of four cars. Since it’s a tight shot there’s no way of knowing where they are. The ticker is too small and fuzzy to read – they have too much info shown in it. They go back to full screen and quickly switch to a shot showing the front bumper of a car. They it changes to a split-screen of the front bumper of a car and a shot of a driver driving. I have no idea who or of the relevance of those shots. Ridiculous.

Sheldon Creed (2) pits under green for a flat right front. He goes three laps down.

Caution number ten on lap 117 of 163 for a spin by Patrick Emerling (35) and Kyle Sieg (28).

Currently out of the race: Justin Allgaier (7), Connor Mosack (24), Sage Karam (45), Josh Williams (92), Kyle Weatherman (02), Jeffrey Earnhardt (44), Kaz Grala (26), Garrett Smithley (4), Joey Gase (53), Caesar Bacarella (66).

Rachel Schuler messaged Mark Garrow to say the incident with a car being parked by a driver was Kyle Busch parking on pit road, getting out and leaving the car. Ross Chastain believes it was at Richmond. He seems to be under the impression that he is a PRN team member. What he’s saying seems to indicate he’s trying to get an invitation to be in the booth on television.

PRN’s Doug Rice reports; Josh Williams tweeted DNF. Cup driver and team owner Denny Hamlin tweeted to Josh Williams I’ll pay your fine.

Restarting on lap 123 of 162 with Georgia boys Brandon Jones (9) and Ryan Sieg (39) on the front row.

Chandler Smith (16) slow along the wall and falling back throught the field in the outside lane. He pits on lap 127 of 163. Chandler Smith heads to the garage on lap 128 of 163. PRN reports, Smith said “the car got knocked out of gear and he can’t get it back in gear.”

We’re split screen in a commercial break looking at the dash and window of some car; not even the gauges, just the top of the dash.

Out of commercial break looking at the front bumper of a car.

Finally a wide shot of the front dozen cars in the field.

They’re single file on lap 137 of 163. Parker Kligerman (48) went to the bottom to try to make a move, but no one will go with him, so he’s sliding backward. Kligerman gains a little in one of the corners and runs third, then falls back the other half of the track and runs fifth or sixth.

Some cars got into the inside lane, but they can’t seem to catch Kligerman (48).

The inside line is getting organized. Austin Hill (21) is blocking both lanes on lap 148 of 163.

Caution on lap 154 of 163 for Parker Retzlaff (35) with heave front right side damage showering sparks. Caution 11 is an Xfinity track record. Retzlaff looks like he’s hurting as he walks to the ambulance. He got loos and hit the outside wall.

Restarting on lap 161 of 161 with Hill (21) and Daniel Hemric (11) on the front row. second place Kligerman (48) chose to line up behind leader Austin Hill on the outside.

Kligerman pushes Hill to the lead and follows him to second.

Kligerman makes his move coming to the flag. He gets sideways and makes contact with Hill, but they keep going. Hemric turns Kligerman near the line and the spinning car collects Riley Herbst (98), Justin Haley (10), and Brennan Poole (6).

Austin Hill (21) wins.

Kligerman made the move to get the lead.

Hemric turns Kligerman crossing the line and unofficially he finishes fourth going backward. His back end – and transponder – crosses the line before Ryan Truex’s transponder, so NASCAR initially had Kligerman finishing third, then changed it to fourth.

Kligerman (48), Riley Herbst (98), Justin Haley (10) and Brennan Poole collected.

Congrats to Ryan Truex (19) on his third place finish.

Motorsport
