Clouds are moving in around the racetrack as the sun sets. Nick Sanchez (2) will lead the 36 truck field to the green flag for a scheduled 100 laps of racing. The stages for tonight’s race are 20-20-60.<\/p>\n

Caution on lap 2 of 100 for rain.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 6 of 100. Before they get to turn two they’re back under caution for rain.<\/p>\n

NASCAR has added the choose rule into super speedway races.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 10 of 100.<\/p>\n

Christian Eckes (19) wins stage one.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 25 of 100 with Tyler Ankrum (16) and Stewart Friesen
\n(52) on the front row. They stayed out during the caution pit cycle along with nine other cars.<\/p>\n

Caution on lap 27 of 100 for a crash involving Dean Thompson (5), Clay Greenfield (84), Matt ‘MattiD’ DiBenedetto (25), Daniel Dye (43), Hailie Deegan (13), Tanner Gray (15), Bret Holmes (32), Jason M. White (34).<\/p>\n

Red flag is out at 2027 eastern time.<\/p>\n

MRN is reporting a light mist on the backstretch at 2029.<\/p>\n


\nThe pace truck is bringing the trucks down pit road as TV goes to commercial.<\/p>\n

The red flag remains out at 2041 eastern.<\/p>\n

The caution is out again at 2042 eastern.<\/p>\n

The wind picked up as the sun went down. MRN says there’s more weather headed their way.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 35 of 100. The stage ends at lap 40. They have burned a lot of laps under caution.<\/p>\n

Caution on lap 40 of 100 as Stewart Friesen (52) was turned into the outside wall by Ben Rhodes (99) who was being pushed by Christian Eckes (19). Codie Rohrbaugh (97) Colby Howard (9), Bret Holmes (32), and Parker Kligerman (75) were collected.<\/p>\n

The stage ends under caution with Tyler Ankrum (16) at the front of the field.<\/p>\n

Some stay out, some pit.<\/p>\n

There’s rain blowing on the camera on lap 44 of 100. The light is off on the pace truck. The drivers are reporting rain on their windscreens. The lights are back on on the pace truck on lap 45 of 100.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 47 of 100 with Corey LaJoie (7) leading them to the green.<\/p>\n

For a while the race is enjoyable to watch, then suddenly we’re looking at a bumper for a while, or the side of a random truck, or the bed of a truck or the camera is so high it looks like the lights are off at the track. They’re trying to do too much and the drivers are actually racing, so it would be more interesting to watch the race. I just look away and listen to the race MRN is calling instead.<\/p>\n

Caution on lap 57 of 100 for a crash involving Matt ‘MattiD’ DiBenedetto (25), Rajah Carruth (24), Grant Enfinger (23), Ty Majeski (98), and Daniel Dye (43). Rajah tried to split the middle and got loose.<\/p>\n

Some pit, some stay out.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 64 of 100 with Corey LaJoie (7) at the front.<\/p>\n

LaJoie gets dumped in the middle in turn one and falls through the field to the rear.<\/p>\n

Caution on lap 67 of 100 for rain.<\/p>\n

The pace truck is bring the trucks down pit road on lap 73 of 100 as the rain has increased. The red flag is out at 2151 eastern. The teams are bringing the tarps out the covers the trucks.<\/p>\n

2201 eastern the track drying team is rolling around the track.<\/p>\n

2243 eastern MRN reports drivers have been called back to their trucks.<\/p>\n

2259 eastern Kaitlyn Vincie of FS1 reports engines have re-fired.<\/p>\n

2253 eastern Caution is out and the trucks are marking pace laps.<\/p>\n

By the way I’m blaming the weather on MRN’s Dave ‘Godfather’ Moody. Last night while calling the on-track activities, Moody said he had refrained from mentioning it before, but the weather has been perfect all week in Daytona. I told Bunny he had just jinxed it.<\/p>\n

The misty rain has picked up again at 2303 eastern.<\/p>\n

The track dryers are back on track along the yellow line as the trucks continue to circle.<\/p>\n

The pace truck is bringing them back down pit road at 2305<\/p>\n

MRN’s Jeff Striegle says the wind is howling and the temperature has dropped dramatically.<\/p>\n

2306 eastern the red flag is displayed on lap 79 of 100 as the teams cover the trucks.<\/p>\n

2312 eastern NASCAR has called it on lap 79 of 100. Zane Smith (38) is the winner.
\n<\/p>\n

In between the rain delays that was a decent race and I was looking forward to the final run to the finish. That said, it’s been a very long work week and I’m super sleepy, so I was ready for them to postpone it, or call it when they did.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately the race also proves how little the kids are prepared to race at a super speedway. I used to love the ARCA races at the super speedways, but they became a master-class in riding around single file for 98% of the event making it unwatchable. It allowed the to continue to move up through the racing series, but it also allowed them to do so without the skills necessary to race well. The current ‘youth movement’ is cheating the fans and the drivers. The drivers don’t have time to become the type talent that will create and maintain fans. The fans don’t get the kind of racing that keeps them coming back for more. NASCAR gains short-term numbers, but loses a solid base to build a future.<\/p>\n
