Thirty-six cars take the track under sunny blue skies with the occasional white fluffy cloud. William ‘WilliB’ Byron (24) has the pole. John Hunter ‘JHN’ Nemechek will substitute for Darrell ‘Bubba’ Wallace in the 23XI 45 car. Bubba was suspended by NASCAR following last weekend’s incident with Kyle Larson. Throughout the week many columnists have been asking why Bubba is the only driver who has been suspended this season, though he is far from the only driver to intentionally crash another car and\/or behave recklessly behind the wheel. The stages for today’s event are 80-85-102 laps.<\/p>\n

Alex Hayden of MRN said the drivers have to pass when they can, which is when the tires are new, then you just try to maintain. I guess he explained why the Homestead Cup races can be so very boring. I understood that to mean race on the restarts or just after a pit stop and log laps the rest of the time. That makes for a boring race. NBC has pulled out the gimmick camera shots early in the event. We went to a commercial break with an in-car camera shot that was mostly showing the dashboard on the passenger side, the hood of the car, and the track surface. Totally boring television.<\/p>\n

Caution on lap 30 of 267 for a spin by John Hunter Nemechek (45).<\/p>\n

On lap 39 of 267 MRN’s Dave Moody says the only problem for the fans in the stands is to figure out which battle to watch. I wish the television viewer had that problem. It sounds like there’s a lot of racing happening on track. On television we’re not treated to visuals of the battles throughout the field. The camera shots make it appear there are cars driving around the track mostly single-file, but occasionally cars somewhere in the field will be side-by-side. They have a little font sometimes that shows the position contested, but mostly it’s just a series of camera shots of random cars driving around the track.<\/p>\n

I find it rather amazing the screen looks crowded with graphics, but because of the crowding and font choices, and camera shots a fan can’t glance at the screen and quickly get an idea of what’s happening with the race.<\/p>\n

Kyle Larson (5) is 9.547 seconds ahead of Tyler ‘TRed’ Reddick (8) in second position on lap 75 of 267.<\/p>\n

On lap 77 of 267 leader Kyle Larson is 10.153 seconds ahead of second place William ‘WilliB’ Byron (24).<\/p>\n

Larson cruises to the stage one win 8.866 seconds ahead of second place.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 87 of 267 with Hendrick teammates Kyle Larson (5) and William Byron (24) on the front row.<\/p>\n

MRN reports the restart is under review for a potential penalty. NASCAR says all is well.<\/p>\n

Between the sea-foam green SAFER barriers and the blue skies and palm trees the visuals around the track are gorgeous.<\/p>\n

Green flag pit stops begin on lap 120 of 167 with Joey Logano (22).<\/p>\n

Noah Gragson (48) penalized for speeding. He will have to serve a pass-thru penalty.<\/p>\n

On lap 133 of 267 Justin Haley (31) pits with a flat right front tire.<\/p>\n

MRN is reporting on lap 156 of 267 that John Hunter ‘JHN’ Nemechek (45) got into play-offs driver Chase Briscoe (14) after losing control of the car.<\/p>\n

Caution on lap 160 of 267 for Chase Briscoe (14) hitting the fence with a flat tire. The way the wheel was wobbling it looked like the right toe link might be broken.<\/p>\n

Chase Briscoe reverses down pit lane like he was going to the garage. He stops on pit road, then drives back into his pit box.<\/p>\n

Chase Briscoe’s (14) car is in the garage and he is out of the car. There are certain suspension parts that a team cannot work on on pit road. Briscoe has more damage than can be repaired on pit road, so his day is over. MRN reports the car has a broken upper toe arm. He likely will not advance in the playoffs as this drops him to the bottom of the play-off field. He can advance if he wins at Martinsville next week.<\/p>\n

Kyle Larson (5) wins stage two under caution.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 170 of 267 with Kyle Larson (5) and Martin ‘MTJ’ Truex Jr (19) at the front of the field.<\/p>\n

Larson gets early lead.<\/p>\n

Chase Briscoe said he’s better than to be crashing by himself. He’s very frustrated in his MRN radio interview. He said he was tight the whole race and was suddenly very loose on that run and was just trying to hang on until the next pit stop to work on the car and get it better. He said it got so loose that he went into the wall.<\/p>\n

On lap 181 of 267 ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin kisses the wall battling for second position.<\/p>\n

Green flag pit stops are kicked off by William ‘WilliB’ Byron (24) on lap 206 of267.<\/p>\n

On lap 210 of 267 Ryan Blaney (12) spun on pit out, following his green flag stop, bringing out the caution.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 216 of 267 with Martin ‘MTJ’ Truex Jr (19) and Ross Chastain (1), who stayed out, on the front row.<\/p>\n

‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11) bumps Chastain, gets him loose, and takes the lead.<\/p>\n

MTJ takes the lead from teammate Hamlin on lap 219 of 267.<\/p>\n

Caution on lap 243 of 267 for a spin by Tyler Reddick (8). Reddick spun out, tapping the outside wall, then slid across the track and hit the inside wall.<\/p>\n

On pit road Larson (5) hit MTJ (19) in the rear spinning MTJ so that he entered the stall facing the wrong direction. As a result, MTJ came in first and left in nineteenth position.<\/p>\n

Restarting on lap 250 of 267 with Kyle Larson (5) and ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11) on the front row.<\/p>\n

Larson gets the early lead as Hamlin blocks cars behind him.<\/p>\n

Ross Chastain (1) and AJ Allmendinger (16) are battling back and forth for second position. Kyle Larson is gaining ground in the lead as they battle each other for about five laps. On lap 262 of 267 Larson is 1.039 seconds ahead of second position.<\/p>\n

Kyle Larson easily wins 1.261 seconds ahead second position.<\/p>\n

That was a boring race to watch, but an interesting race to hear. The MRN broadcast called an exciting race. NBC showed a boring race. When the camera shots were decent the viewer could sometimes see the action on track. Unfortunately most of the time NBC was attempting to use camera angles to draw interest rather than show the actual on-track action. Larson led 199 of 267 laps. The race was not exciting. It was interesting at times, when you could see the actual on-track racing action. The race was very mildly competitive with a few drivers leading the 68 laps Larson did not lead. The race was not memorable.<\/p>\n

MTJ said, in his tv and radio interviews, he saw his box late and slowed down. Larson said, and MTJ also said, it was hard to see on pit road with the sun shining on the windows. He said he knows it’s not all his (Larson’s) fault; it’s partly his (MTJ’s) fault.<\/p>\n
