Both mentioned that he had a lucky break with the KyBu spin because Bubba (23) was likely going to put Ty Dillon (42) and Ricky Stenhouse Jr (47) down a lap before the end of the stage. I don’t get why I should care if Chase Briscoe (14) wasn’t in the free pass position. So what? Oh yeah I forgot that his teammate Cole Custer (41) just got a $100K fine and lost 100 points due to manipulating the finish of the race to get Chase into contention this round. NASCAR says Chase would’ve been in without the 41 team’s antics and that’s why the penalties weren’t more severe. Since Hendrick successfully got William ‘WilliB’ Byron’s (24) points back for an infraction he committed on camera – the appeals board doubled the fine and returned the points – Stewart-Haas Racing will be appealing their penalties.

Stage one ends under caution with Darrell ‘Bubba’ Wallace (23) staying up front.

Restarting on lap 84 of 367 with Bubba Wallace (23) and Daniel Suarez (99) on the front row.

Daniel Suarez (99) takes the lead from Bubba.

Caution on lap 93 of 267 for a wreck involving Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson and Bubba Wallace. Bubba got out of his car and walked away from it. He’s just walking down the track away from the safety workers. He goes over to Kyles larson and starts fighting him when larson gets out of his car. a nascar official is trying to get bubba to go somewhere else, bubba shrugged off his hand and is walking back to pit road. okay that was the most excitement I’ve seen at a Las Vegas race in a while.

Bubba was in the top lane racing alongside Kevin ‘KHarv/Happy’ Harvick (4). Larson made it three wide underneath Harvick. Harvick got out of the throttle and out of the middle. Larson and Bubba raced door-to-door. Bubba bounced off the outside wall, then went down and hit Larson’s right-rear sending Larson spinning. Larson clipped the rear of Christopher Bell’s car as his car went around.

TV interview – Bubba said Larson shoved him into the fence deliberately to force him to lift. Wallace: “piss poor move on his execution”. Marty Snyder: “Was retaliation the right move”. Wallace: “Stop fishing, stop fishing”.

PRN radio interview – Larson: I obviously made an aggressive move into three. I knew he was going to retaliate. He had a reason to be mad. His race wasn’t over until he retaliated. Brett McMillan: Is retaliation at that speed acceptable thing? Laron: I don’t thinks its probably the right thing to do. We’ve all done it. I’ve let emotions get the best of me too. He’ll know he made a mistake in the retaliation part. He’ll think twice before he does it next time. When asked if he expected the physical reaction – Larson: “Yeah, I saw him coming. I figured we were going to have a chat or something. I’d rather him do that than tear up our cars in a dangerous manner.”

Christopher ‘CBell’ Bell (2) is out due to overrunning the damage clock as a result of a broken toe link.

restarting on lap 101 of 267 with ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11) and Daniel Suarez (99) up front.

Larson: I made an aggressive move and ran him out of room and into the wall. I’m a little bit frustrated with myself trying to be aggressive today feel like I haven’t been aggressive. You risk that when you make an aggressive move. His physical response did not surprise me. I would rather him have done that than tear up both of our cars.

Caution on lap 102 of 267 for a spin by Ricky Stenhouse Jr (47).

Restarting on lap 107 of 267 with Daniel Suarez and Denny Hamlin on the front row.

Christopher Bell was very curt on the radio interview. The reporter said it looks like you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. CBell said, “Yeah, nothing more to say”. Then he was asked about his frustration with trying to race for a position in the next round and ends up out early. “He said yeah its frustrating. We have the performance to race for the championship but it doesn’t look like we’re going to be able to”. He was much less snippy on the television interview. I wonder if the tv guys talked to him first and he was just acting nice for tv and showing his butt to radio since they don’t seem to be a priority for NASCAR, or if the radio guys talked to him first and he let out his frustration on them and was calmer by the time he did his tv interview. Historically tv has had priority. NBC seems to rarely have live care center interviews, so I wonder if they no longer have first opportunity.

Ryan Blaney (12) easily wins stage two 1.569 seconds ahead of second place.

Restarting on lap 171 of 267 with Joey Logano (22) and ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11) on the front row.

Caution on lap 194 of 267 for a slide by JJ Yeley (15).

Restarting on lap 199 of 267 with Ross Chastain (1) and Ryan Blaney (12) leading the field to the green flag.

William ‘WilliB’ Byron (24) bottomed out and chased it up the track toward the 12 of Ryan Blaney on lap 200 of 267. If he didn’t make contact it was very close.

On lap 207 of 267 Austin Cindric in on the apron heading to pit road after tagging the wall.

Kyle Busch (18) got a piece of Ryan Blaney’s (12) rear bumper as Blaney floated up in front of KyBu who seemed to have a run. Blaney held on to the car.

After dropping back on the restart and subsequent laps Blaney (12) has made it back up to second position.

On lap 227 of 267 Ryan Blaney brings out the caution as he taps the outside wall multiple times then spins in front of the field ending up hitting the inside wall. The way the car jerked to the right suddenly it looks like something broke.

KyBu (18) leaves pit road smoking on the left side of the car. The left front wheel comes off before he can get back to pit road.

Restarting on lap 232 of 267 with Justin Haley (31) and Ross Chastain (1) on the front row. Haley made a two tire stop.

So far this has been a busy race. The Bubba Wallace – Kyle Larson incident was the most exciting thing that’s happened. There has been some occasional racing. The leader on restart tends to run off from the field for a bit. There may be more racing on the track; tv is bored and showing all kinds of things that aren’t good race shots. The field has single-filed out frequently. I think it would take better camera operators to actually cover all the action that is legitimately occurring during the event.

Caution on lap 240 of 267 for a spin into and through the infield by Daniel Suarez (99). Suarez appeared to be trying to keep it off the outside wall when Tyler Reddick (8) crowded him toward the wall.

Some pit, some stay out. Joey Logano (22), Kyle Busch (18) and Chase Elliott (9) pit.

Restarting on lap 245 of 267 with Justin Haley (31) and Chase Briscoe (14) on the front row.

Caution on lap 246 of for a visit with the wall by Landon Cassill (77). There’s a hole in the front grill of the car so Landon may have hit something.

William ‘WilliB’ Byron (24) pits on lap 248 of 267.

Restarting on lap 251 of 267 with Chase Briscoe (14) and Justin Haley (31) on the front row.

One of the more useless fascinations for the NBC crew, the pace cam – a bumper cam shot from the pace car. It’s a dumb shot that offers nothing for the viewer.

Ross Chastain (1) passed Haley (31) and Briscoe (14) for the lead as they were battling door-to-door on the restart. Chastain drives away from both.

Martin ‘MTJ’ Truex Jr (19) side bumps Justin Haley on lap 256 of 267.

Joey Logano (22) is chasing down Ross Chastain (1) on lap 258 of 267 after finally getting away from Chase Briscoe (14).

Logano (22) has caught Chastain (1) on lap 261 of 267.

Chastain is blocking for all her’s worth.

KyBu gets past Briscoe for third.

Logano and Chastain are door-to-door on lap 263 of 267. Logano passes Chastain for the lead.

KyBus slams the outside wall coming to the checkered flag trying to pass Chastain.

Joey Logano wins.

The way Chastain ducked to the side on pit road when Kyle Busch rolled up beside him, I imagine he did something to KyBu that he is expecting payback for.

Joey Logano (22) is one of the final four.

The Larson-Wallace incident was memorable. Kurt Busch’s announcement that he would not participate in the rest of the 2022 season, nor would he drive full-time in 2023 due to his concussion was very memorable. The occasional battles for the lead were entertaining. There was a little competition, but track position was so vital that in the end the competitiveness of the event was mild. Logano’s and Kyle Busch’s final charges to the front were exciting. Overall the event was boring to watch, but that seemed partially due to the paltry coverage, rather than the event itself. There were definitely dull periods in the middle of the stages, but often the viewer could see interesting action at the edges of shots or just as the camera moved to some gimmick shot or in replay. NBC needs to focus on capturing action as it happens, not using replay to show all the many events of interest they miss. The purpose of watching a live event is to actually see the action as it happens, not a few minutes later.

Chase Elliott gave a very terse radio interview to Wendy Venturini of PRN. He said, in response to the question what do you think was the problem today, “Me”.

Motorsport News:

Kurt Busch won’t race NASCAR full-time in 2023 as he remains sidelined by concussion.

Bubba Wallace Has Fiery Response to ‘Piss-Poor’
