Ken is good. Why hasn’t he taught others, particularly those currently broadcasting, to do the job well? The man qualifies for retirement, but he’s never allowed to rest on his laurels, because he can do things with words no one on NBC can. They need to learn, because one day, that man won’t be able to take up their slack. Just saying.

So the first race of the play-offs (The Chase) is here. Chicago is traditionally a very boring Cup race.

Peace, comfort and consolation to the family of Ted Christopher on their loss yesterday. Ted was killed in a plane crash.

Kyle ‘KyBu’ Busch will lead the field to the green.

Why does Dale Jarrett yell all the time. Has no one explained the purpose of the microphone to him? His voice is far too harsh to be that loud. He screeches.

Happy 42nd birthday to Jimmie Johnson.

The stages for the race are 80-80-107.

Green flag pit stops are underway on lap 38 of 267.

KyBu win stage one.

Restarting on lap 87 of 267.

KyBu and KHarv lead the field to the green. Kevin Harvick takes the lead on lap 88.

KyBu coming down pit road on lap 97 of 267 complaining of a loose wheel. They’re – NASCAR officials – are also checking his tires for a rear wheel losing air, intentionally.

KyBu is serving a pit road penalty for crew member over the wall too soon violation on that pit stop.

Green flag pit stops appear to be underway again on lap 122 of 267.

KyBu drove himself to one lap down passing KHarv on the track.

Kasey Kahne’s paint scheme is the result of a coloring contest for kids by sponsor Great Clips and is the best looking car he’s had all season. Wyatt, the winning colorist, last had chemo in June and is in remission. He seems to be having a good summer.

KyBu just drove past leader Chase Elliott. MRN is saying that puts Kyle one lap down. He drove past KHarv before the pit stops so it seems he should’ve driven back onto the lead lap. Hmmm. He’s shown as one lap down.

Chase Elliott wins stage two.

Restarting on lap 167 of 267.

Caution on lap 168 for a spin by Jamie McMurray. Looks – from the distant shots on tv – like he bounced off Newman’s left rear for some reason. The shots are very far away, so its difficult to see exactly what occurred.

Restarting on lap 172 of 267.

Martin Truex Jr drives to the lead on lap 190 of 267.

Green flag pit stops underway on lap 201 of 267.

Caution on lap 210 of 267 for a spin by Erik ‘Da Brat’ Jones.

Landon Cassill gets the free pass on this caution.

Restarting on lap 215 of 267.

Clouds are building with 24 laps to go.
