Erik ‘Da Brat’ Jones won the Xfinity race yesterday stinking up the show. I had to agree with the PRN guy when he said, “I’m glad NASCAR limited the number of Xfinity races Cup drivers competed in”. I’d like to see the number of races that include Cup guys further limited – unless the Cup drivers swap cars with an underfunded team for the race. Usually the Cup drivers vs Xfins are like shooting fish in a barrel – and extraordinarily boring to watch.<\/p>\n
‘It’ joining Michael Waltrip and Adam Alexander in the booth guaranteed an unwatchable broadcast. I miss the old days of Race Buddy that simply provided several cameras with in-car sounds. When I’ve tried it recently I’ve given up between the commercials, the radio chatter, the interruptions in the feeds – just too little car sounds and race sounds. Fans need an option to view the race without being subjected to Michael Waltrip, Larry McReynolds and other aggravations.<\/p>\n
I’m rather bummed that Atlanta won’t get a re-pave. I was hoping – very, very optimistically – that maybe, just maybe, a re-pave at Atlanta might bring back the exciting racing I experienced when I began attending races at AMS. On a given race weekend the racing would get better and better from the Trucks to the Nationwide cars to the Cup cars. As I continued to attend the races the Cup races became boring. After a couple years, the Xfinity races followed suit. The last Truck race I attended succumbed. Then they removed the Truck races from the weekend’s schedule. I’d hoped a repave might improve the racing which might allow the track to move to a more favorable date in the schedule. While the racing may be fun for the drivers – they get paid to be there. As a fan, the racing is horribly boring. The boredom is the reason I wasn’t crushed when the race was moved to the second of the season making it highly unlikely I’d brave the elements and attend. If they could find a way to improve the racing at the track – for the fans – you know, the people who spend hard-earned money to be there – and give it a slot between May 1 and September 1, I think they would find that the stands would fill again. Seems to me that NASCAR might do better (make more money) if they listen to the fans (who speak with their feet, or with their butts in seats) at least as often, if not more often, than the sponsors, media, owners, and drivers. It’s a novel idea, but it seems to me that listening to those you’re trying to entice to spend money with you is more effective than listening to those who get paid by you (or because of you).<\/p>\n
Lots of debris cautions in this race. Not many cautions due to wrecks, but the debris cautions have been falling regularly.<\/p>\n
Ryan Blaney just had a tough stop overshooting the box, then the car fell off the jack. He was hoping to git back up front after losing track position when some of the field pitted during the caution just before the end of stage two. The pit stop made that doubtful – but who knows what will happen.<\/p>\n
Squinty-douchey stayed out. they will be restarting with 31 to go.<\/p>\n
PRN – its aggravating to be listening to the race – in the zone – then suddenly have the call go away because of a stupid prompt to ask if I’m still there. It’s terribly disruptive.<\/p>\n

Congrats to Dale Jr on his fifth place finish and to Chase Elliott on his ninth place finish.<\/p>\n
Kasey retired early, around lap 290 of 334, reportedly with a broken axle.<\/p>\n
Ryan Blaney sounds heartbroken with his 12th place finish. He was stinking up the show nicely during the first two stages. He’s showing that he has what it takes to land in victory lane.<\/p>\n
The racing seemed a little better at Texas than the past few races. Texas has rarely been particularly exciting, but it had sunken to new depths recently. It appears the re-pave may have given them a chance to improve the racing and show Atlanta that things can improve. We’ll see in the November race.<\/p>\n
Now its time to catch up with the goings-on at the Augusta National on Masters’ Sunday.<\/p>\n
