Before I get to NASCAR I have to say congratulations to the New England Patriots on their history making overtime win in Super Bowl LI over the Atlanta Falcons. It was the first Super Bowl game to go into overtime. Lots of records were broken including Tom Brady broke the tie with Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana in Super Bowl wins by a quarterback with his fifth win. Bill Belichick set a record with his fifth Super Bowl win as a head coach. According to the NFL more than 30 records were broken or tied<\/a> in the game.<\/p>\n

On to NASCAR as my wait is nearing completion – NASCAR will take to the track – finally – at the end of the coming week! I’m excited to see the good, the bad and the ugly.<\/p>\n

There have been many changes over the off-season and I’m curious to see how they will affect the racing – and the product. No, those two things aren’t synonymous to me Steve O’Donnell – nor should they be to you.<\/p>\n

I’m trying to catch up on the latest in the NASCAR world. I’ve not been reading the NASCAR sites much during the off-season, hearing news here-and-there. One recent item pleased me – Michael Waltrip says his 30th Daytona 500 will be his last<\/a>. Now if he will just make a similar announcement regarding his on-air appearances… It’s a shame, because I really used to love Mikey on ‘This Week In NASCAR’. I now realise the combination of a relatively short show and a terrific host kept Mikey’s more aggravating tendencies in check – made him lovable. I really miss Steve Byrnes. Actually I miss all the truly talented NASCAR broadcasters who’ve been lost in the pursuit of quantity (young male fans) over quality (dedicated, loyal fans). I’m sure there were some economic decisions in there also – at least I hope that’s the explanation behind Danielle Trotta, Michael Waltrip, Rutledge Wood, Larry McReynolds, Adam Alexander and Kyle Petty. Of course, my mom says, “You pay peanuts, you get monkeys.” Seems like it.<\/p>\n

I’m ready for the 2017 NASCAR Season! To quote DW, “Let’s go racin’ boys!<\/span><\/strong>”<\/p>\n
