We know Jr loves racing NASCAR stock cars. In this time of studies showing how consistently people go to work when they’re sick, and how it negatively affects the person, as well as those around him or her. It is a wonderful thing to see Dale Jr respecting his body and his competitors by seeking treatment for his symptoms before putting himself or the other drivers in danger. Many drivers have driven with concussions and other injuries. Often they felt they had to in order to take care of their families. Dale Jr best takes care of his family by taking care of himself. Endangering the health of your co-workers is unacceptable, regardless of the job. When the consequences of your showing up at work sick is spreading the flu, that’s punishable behaviour, but, usually, the damage isn’t fatal. Racing while impaired is a potentially deadly proposition and we’ve lost too many drivers in the past few years to accidents that were not due to avoidable circumstances or behaviours. I salute Dale Earnhardt Jr on the bravery, consideration, and intelligence he displays while choosing to follow his doctors’ instructions and do what’s necessary for a successful future.

It was such a joy to see some of the legends of the sport on stage together in the pre-race ceremonies. Bunny mentioned that Mark Martin looks older than most of the legends 20 years his senior. I mentioned to her that Rex White, who was on stage, was born before the stock market crashed setting off the Great Depression. I was so pleased to see him, Cale Yarbrough, Len Wood, Jerry Cook, Bobby Allison, Darrell Waltrip, as well as the other legends. Mark Martin seemed really out of place in that group, but they keep adding those guys in, like Dale Jarrett. I imagine its to get those with no sense of history, no real idea that a museum, like the Hall of Fame, is typically not a place one finds a whole lot of recent history to buy a ticket. Marketing overrides common sense, as usual.

For the past 45 of 367 laps we’ve mostly been watching a game of follow the leader. I hope the race action will pick up at some point. Looks like they’re just settling in and logging laps at this point. On lap 48 of 367 ‘Kutey’ Kyle Larson kicked off the green flag pit stops.

The headlines seem to indicate I missed something yesterday during the truck race. We didn’t watch it yesterday. Bunny was busy recording things to clear space on the DVR. We’ll likely check it out tomorrow, unless this race is really short.

Caution on lap 96 of 367 for a spin by Trevor Bayne who was trying to get to pit road the car seemed like it just wouldn’t turn. It happened during more green flag stops, so this is going to put some folks a lap down.

Ned Jarrett and Ken Squires are calling the race. HOORAY!!!

The 48 has been black flagged for an unapproved adjustment to the car. One of the guys at the rear of the car pressed down on the car and leaned into the rear quarter panel.

Caution on lap 114 of 367 for a spin by Brian Scott.

The only bad thing about the crew in the booth is that Squires keeps directing things to Dale Jarrett and asking him to speak. We get way too much of that on any given day. When we have actual professional broadcasters in the booth, he really should stay quiet and learn how to do his stinking job! He can’t be rude and now answer Squires, but he should keep it extraordinarily short and let his betters do their thing.

Caution is out on lap 204 of 367 for Brian Scott hitting the wall. He and Smoke were traveling around the track when suddenly Tony Stewart turn right into Scott sending him into the wall. Brian bounced off the outside wall into the inside wall. He drove the car to the garage.

Caution on lap 214 of 367 for Jimmie Johnson into the inside wall.

Jimmie has taken the car to the garage.

Caution on lap 250 of 367 as Jeffrey Earnhardt hits the wall.

Caution on lap 261 of 367 for Greg Biffle getting loose and smacking the wall.

Caution on lap 279 of 367 for AJ Allmendinger getting into Ryan Blaney, running Blaney into the wall. Dingdong spun to the bottom of the track.

Casey Mears had a fire in his pit around lap 313 of 367 during his green flag pit stop.

Caution on lap 318 of 367 as it appears Smoke has blown up.

Smoke said the car was 375 degrees on water temperature. He also said he’s curious to see why NASCAR called him into the hauler. He said he guesses that everyone who wrecks will get called in for a consultation also.

Caution is out on lap 327 of 367 for Kurt Busch into the wall. Menard ran up into Kurt Busch and hit the wall. We’d seen what appeared to be a tire rub on the 27 since the restart.

On the restart Carl Edwards seems to have lost a tire. He was able to get to pit road without incident.

Caution is out on lap 349 of 367 for Aric ‘Afterburner’ Almirola into the wall in his classic Petty 43. Clint “Drunk Daddy” Bowyer bounced off the wall down into Afterburner. Aric said he just got loose under Clint and wrecked. He said his car has been a handful all year and tonight was more of the same.

Twelve to go on the restart.

Martin Truex Jr wins!

Congrats to Kasey Kahne on a seventh place finish.

Truex kissed the start-finish line after grabbing the checkered flag.

Nice finish Chris Buescher – 17th place.

We saw the finish of the Canadian Truck Series race.
