The sun is shining bright and the drivers and their families seem to be enjoying the weather. UFC Bantam weight champion Miesha Tate is the Grand Marshall. Good for the Harvick’s management group. They seem to be doing good work for her.

Jeff Gordon and Darrell Waltrip in the booth are very excited, and nervous, about the new rules package for this race.

So far I’m not seeing very much improvement in the race. Michigan used to be one of my favorite tracks, but, like Atlanta, it’s had pretty boring racing for the past five years or more. There has to be something that can really improve the racing at these tracks. I miss wanting to go to the Atlanta race. Since they’ve moved the race to winter it’s kinda okay since I have no plans of freezing my butt off in grandstands, but I miss looking forward to a race. I’m still trying to get some info about Darlington with an idea of that race replacing my Labor Day weekend vacation race. So far info has been hard to get. When I attempted to reserve a motel for the race last September and October nothing I wanted was available. I was shocked at the lack of availability a year out. I think I’m going to take a drive to that area at some point in the near future to scope things out and try to get something going for next year.

Martin Truex brings out the caution on lap 48 as he goes for a spin.

It was supposedly out of gas when it happened so he managed to get to pit road without losing the lead.

53 KyBu is blowing up, the car on fire.

Caution is out on lap 62 for Dale Jr and A.J. Allmendinger getting into the wall. Dale Jr split the middle between Chris Buescher and AJ Allmendinger and Chris seemed to tap Jr’s car a little bit when Buescher got loose, which sent him into Jr and sent r into Allmendinger.

Jr says he’s disappointed in Buescher driving into his quarter panel cause “you have a responsibility to take care of everybody else out there, even when you’re three wide.” He probably doesn’t realize Buescher got loose under him and couldn’t hold the car down.

Jr says the new package “isn’t really any different from the other package”. He thinks “we talk about packages too much”.

Amen!

The most amusing part of that to me was that Darrell Waltrip agreed. That amuses me because they’ve been talking about the new package every time I’ve seen them. That’s what sticking to predetermined talking points will do for you.

Caution on lap 102 of 200 for Jeffrey Earnhardt in the wall. Some green flag pit stops occurred shortly before the caution came out.

Matti Di got a push to the garage. He was slowly making his way down toward pit road on the apron when the caution came out.

Jeffrey Earnhardt’s car is flaming down the apron on lap 108. Caution comes out on lap 109 as Jeffrey’s car goes up in flames on pit road. The right front tire is in flames.

Regan Smith in the 7 hit the wall hard in front of leader Chase Elliott and brought out the caution on lap 149 of 200 during a commercial break.

Fox Sports if you insist on giving Larry McReynolds a microphone, please hire someone to teach him to correctly pronounce the word ‘further’ since he continues to use it without the ability to pronounce it.

Caution on with 46 laps to go as Brian Scott and Casey Mears spin.

Caution is out with 38 to go as the 6 of Trevor Bayne gets loose and runs the 48 into the wall.

Ricky ‘Stinkhouse’ Stenhouse (17) got a little loose and took Ryan Blaney (21) up into the gray area where the marbles live and Blaney hit the wall at the same time Jimmie was hitting the wall.

Caution is out with 12 to go as Denny Hamlin blew the left rear tire slid through the grass into the pit wall barely missing the corner of the pit wall between the grass and the track.

Stenhouse is coming to pit road with six laps to go. No caution.

Squinty-Douchey Joey Logano wins. Chase Elliott finishes second. Great going rookie. You got beat by the Penske restart gimmick (cheat), but did a good job today.

Trevor Bayne seemed to draw the ire of a lot of field with his reckless driving today.

Chase says he did something dumb on the last restart and you can’t do something dumb and win these things. That boy is relentless. He’ll get to the winner’s circle soon.

Smoke finished seventh. Great going Tony Stewart! Keep pushing and make your final season a dream come true.

It was a busy race, but once the leader got out front, overall, he was gone! A better race than the last few Michigan races, but NASCAR still has work to do to get the race action back to where it used to be.

NASCAR News:

Remembering Jason Leffler on third anniversary of his death.

NASCAR launches new campaign to promote diversity, end racism.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. after XFINITY broadcast: ‘Working the booth was a blast’.

Suarez becomes 1st Mexican to win NASCAR national race.

Brad Keselowski stands by Jeff Gordon criticism, says former star has conflict in booth.

Read NASCAR driver Erik Jones’ heartfelt tribute to his late father.

Next Race: Sonoma

GO 48!!!!

Beautiful day in Michigan.
