The sky in Martinsville is gorgeous – clear, blue perfection. Earlier I saw that it was 46 degrees with 15 mph winds. You couldn’t pay me to sit outside in grandstands in that weather – then again I’m from Georgia. Mild weather means something totally different to me than it does to a person in and around New Hampshire. Kasey Kahne is starting on the outside pole position. Congrats to Kasey for a great qualifying effort.<\/p>\n
The race is on FS1. Once upon a time when a sport wanted maximum attention and viewership it broadcasted events on a network. Now it seems the marketing folks believe their target audience is not to be found getting their sports watching on network television. The concept of matching the sport to the audience it apparently outdated in favor of manipulating the sport to match the fickle tastes of 18-35 year old males. If you look at their dating history you should have a clue at how successful you will be in keeping up with their ever-changing tastes.<\/p>\n
Caution on lap 5 for Dale Earnhardt Jr going around. Big Daddy says David Ragn’s tail pipe cut Booboo’s tire down instantly. Thrilla from Unadilla hit the curb and then went into Dale Jr.<\/p>\n
Paul Menard has led his first lap at Martinsville taking the lead from Joey Logano on lap 22 of 500. Everybody else is trying to save their tires this early in the race. Now Kyle Busch goes past Moldy Bread for second. KyBu won the Nationwide – oops Xfinity series race yesterday. I’d really like KyBu to set up a car for Xfinity, then swap cars with some team that can’t afford to do al the things JGR can for the race and see what some of those talented drivers without adequate funding can do with a viable car.<\/p>\n
KyBu has taken the lead from Menard on lap 32 of 500.<\/p>\n
Joey Logano goes a lap down to KyBusch on lap 77, from first to 23rd in about 50 laps.<\/p>\n
The guys in the booth are talking about the fact the track isn’t taking rubber at all. Goodyear brought a new tire for the race – according to Jimmie. DW says its the same tire they brought last year. Looks like the weather didn’t cooperate with Goodyear’s plans. They’re saying the track temperature is too low for it to take rubber.<\/p>\n
On lap 91 Michael Annett goes around bringing out the caution. We were busy looking at a close-up shot of Clint Bowyer’s tire which was down to the cords when the spin happened. We’d been stuck looking at the under-side of the car for more than two laps.<\/p>\n
Ricky Stinkhouse goes around in into the wall to bring out another caution on lap 140 of 500.<\/p>\n
Caution is out on lap 221 of 500 for Denny Hamlin hitting the wall. He said he was wheel hopping.<\/p>\n
Denny says it was his first time ever wheel hopping at Martinsville and its “kind of embarrassing”.<\/p>\n
Caution is out on lap 312 of 500 as Josh Wise goes up the track with a little help from Martin Truex Jr.<\/p>\n
Caution is out with 118 to go for a spin by Michael Annett.<\/p>\n
Caution is out with 44 to go as Regan Smith said his transmission locked up and he ended up in the wall.<\/p>\n
Caution is out with 17 to go as Jamie McMurray’s tire rub became a flat tire that spun him around.<\/p>\n
With 4 to go Joey Logano’s nose\/hood seems to have flapped up and stayed up.<\/p>\n
Kyle Busch wins. He won the truck series race yesterday sweeping the weekend.<\/p>\n
Jimmie finishes 9th.<\/p>\n
