The winds are blowing at 25-30 mph with gusts to 50 mph. The clouds are hanging rather low though the sun is shining currently. Kenseth says “there’s some rain coming in and out”. Myers says there’s a 25% chance of rain. The skies look quite threatening at the moment.

They were just showing a video interview with Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson that suddenly dropped out to a shot of the track. Chris Myers said the wind is wreaking havoc with their equipment. They showed crewmen trying to put the cover on the 78 Furniture Row Toyota and the wind kept taking it until it flew off the car and covered one of the crewmen – looked like Cole Pearn.

It appears to be raining.

KHarv has on the cutest skull cap with a pompom. Myers says he has the flu. The temperature was shown as 70 degrees. Rain is on the camera lens. Happy said he

Miesha Tate, who’s managed by KHI Management, won her MMA fight last night and the women’s UFC Championship.

Can we PLEASE stop with the grid walk and with the helmet cam! Pre-race interviews on the grid are fine, though we need someone less self-involved that Michael Waltrip to do them. The helmet/hat cam is just nauseating. That seems to be an issue with some of the FOX people with microphones – they seem to be under the mistaken impression that these things are about them, not realizing their job is to make it all about the person they’re interviewing. They’re supposed to make the audience care about the person being interviewed and believe it is important to know and talk to this person. Too often I see Michael Waltrip, Danielle Trotta, Jamie Little and Larry McReynolds get so involved in their thoughts, position, grooming, comfort, that they forget to put the focus on the person they’re interviewing.

The drivers appear to be cold. Rain continues to fall on the camera. Team members are trying to keep the covers on the cars.

Craig Morgan is doing the national anthem and doing a fine job of it. They’re having a flyover. The Thunderbirds! The planes split and it looked really cool. Too bad it went from a normal shot to a fisheye shot that made the view incomprehensible and no longer beautiful.

For some reason Michael Waltrip decided not to comb his hair before getting back on the desk. Seriously? Is this a comedy sketch? Chris Myers asked Michael to stop touching him. He said people have called in saying its a drinking game. Wow. Dude! That’s ugly. I understand his point, and would like Michael to stop pawing people, but still, ugly.

There will be a competition caution at lap 30 due to the rain.

Kurt Busch set a record with his 196mph pole winning run. He is on the desk, but it appears they’re trying to hurry up the start, so Kurt has to get down to his car and can’t really do an interview with them.

I don’t know who’s switching this broadcast, but its not going well. The weather may be causing the chaos, but the chaos is visible to the home viewer.

Once again there are only 39 cars in the field. This charter thing doesn’t seem to be working as well as the previous system. At least there was a full field on a weekly basis.

Marcus Lemonis had a good point this week in light of Brian France’s inappropriate endorsement of a presidential candidate. I was disappointed when I heard that Bill Elliott had made an endorsement. At least he’s no longer directly working for NASCAR. Bringing politics into sports or entertainment is an excellent way to alienate fans and potential fans. For Brian France to make an endorsement reinforces my opinion of him. I feel that he’s overwhelmed and delegating relevant NASCAR decisions to the business folks who can work with a spreadsheet, with metrics, but have no people skills, nor any idea how to work with fans’ emotions. He, like Kyle Petty, is proof that bloodline does not produce an affinity, talent, skill, nor ability to perform the job of your father or grandfather. They say twins skip a generation, seems as though talent does also. Although it may be a case of misogyny rearing its ugly head in these cases. Maybe the girls in that generation should have been allowed to take over for their fathers and taken command of their families’ business. That might have worked out better. Maybe. Brian just seems to be doing everything possible to undo the work of his father.

There’s a rain cloud hanging over the track as they come to the start-finish line. Sunshine is peeking out otherwise.

Lap 1 of 267 is underway. Mike Joy said the leader of lap one has never gone to victory lane at Las Vegas in 18 races.

Kurt Busch had debris on his grill on lap 6 due to all the debris blowing around due to the high winds.

They’re saying the winds have started to come down a little bit, about 5mph lower.

KuBu got popped for speeding on the competition caution.

Green flag stops were relatively uneventful.

Debris caution on lap 98 of 267.

Caution is out on lap 178 of 267 for debris.

Caution on lap 198 of 267 due to a spin by Kutey Kyle Larson as a result of AJ Allmendinger getting right up to his bumper and around the 42 goes.

The restart is being held off due too a sandstorm that is coming across the track. The winds are blasting again.

They’re restarting with 64 laps to go.

As the cars go around the sand still seems to be blowing across the track and I saw a raindrop on one of the cameras. Debris is blowing around the track.

The big flag pole was bending the wind is blowing so hard now. I’m still seeing droplets of water on the various cameras.

Caution is out for a spin by Regan Smith in the 7 and Kyle Larson in the 42 with 53 laps to go.

The sandstorm seems to have picked up again and the droplets continue on the cameras.

Tod Gordon crew chief of the 22 says weather is coming, so they decided to stay out during the last pit stop.

Restarting with 44 laps to go. Debris is blowing across the track shortly after the restart.

Hometown boy Kyle Busch came from sixth position to the lead on the restart before turn two was completed and before the wreck. It was an amazing move!

Wreck with 43 to go as Kenseth slid in front of the field and Chase Elliott in the 24 and Carl Edwards in the 19 got a piece of it. The 21 took the air off the 20 of Kenseth, Chase hit Matt, then Carl hit Chase after both slid down the track. Kurt Busch in the 41 slid for a while on the inside of Carl Edwards.

We’re getting the one to go and the sun is out again. Lots of debris blowing around.

Restarting with 35 to go. KyBu got a good restart.

Chase Elliott was beating himself up badly about the wreck. He’s frustrated that he’s only finished one race so far this season. Matt Kenseth said he doesn’t know why the car got loose, he thought he was fine and the next thing he knew it got out from under him.

KyBu says he might be having a right front issue. He has 13 to go and is leading. The Penske twins are behind him and the 48 is behind them. Keselowski is trying to get past Logano, but can’t quite seem to do it.

Keselowski finally passed the 22 of Logano with 8 to go.

Keselowski passes KyBu with 6 to go.

Keselowski wins.

Logano and Johnson both passed KyBu at the line.

Mike Joy said the fans made the loudest noise for Keselowski during driver intros and they weren’t cheering.

Keselowski dropped the flag during his burnout. The crowd laughed. He’s stopping to get out and pick it up. What a loser.

That was a disappointing finish.

In NASCAR news this week:

Column: SHR move to Ford could mean tension with Hendrick.

Brian France puts NASCAR in crosshairs with Trump endorsement.

Camping World CEO slams NASCAR’s Brian France for Donald Trump endorsement.

Mexico’s Daniel Suarez making NASCAR history.

Kurt Busch Vegas Pole Winner.

Stewart’s Return Uncertain.

Confidence High for Truex Jr..

Teams Complete Vegas Test .

RCR, JTG-Daugherty Among Teams Docked Points .

Pearn Suspended, Will Appeal.

Drivers Praise New Rules.

Kyle Busch Dominates Vegas.

Kevin and DeLana Harvick celebrate Miesha Tate’s incredible upset.

Next Race: Phoenix

GO 48!!!!

It’s cloudy and windy in Vegas.
