Back in the U.S.A.

So, I’ve always wanted to go to England. The Beatles were still around and touring when I was a little girl. Tom Jones was shaking his thang on tv. And the Rolling Stones, with that sexy Mick Jagger, were being naughty. I was an anglophile as a toddler and it increased exponentially in the 70s with Bowie, Wings, Zeppelin, ELO, the Sweet, Supertramp and T-Rex, and blasted into the stratosphere as I came of age in the 80s with Punk and New Wave bands/artists Duran Duran, Culture Club, Spandau Ballet, Howard Jones, Allison Moyet, The Clash, Sex Pistols, Dexys Midnight Runners, New Order, Elvis Costello, ABC and the hundreds of others making the scene. I got caught up on Roxy Music. Bowie made a come back. And the Stones were still rocking.
I’m skipping down memory lane this morning because 1. I’m exhausted and my mind tends to wander when I’m tired and 2. because I’m back at home after have the glorious opportunity to visit England over the past few days. After dreaming of London, I was actually there on Tuesday. LiverPooh is working in Liverpool thanks to her great company. I was able to visit her during the past week. 2010 Spring Darlington Sunday

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

I had the joy and privilege of spending Mother’s Day with my mother.  My Mom is currently one of the sweetest people you’d ever meet.  She’s kind.  She’s compassionate.  She’s fun and funny.  Somewhere along the line she became one of those crazy old Catholic ladies who goes to church daily and hangs out predominately with other Catholics.  Though I’m happy to say she retains a lot of her beliefs which may not completely coincide with what the latest pope thinks a Roman Catholic person should believe and I salute her for it.  I also cheer on her daily church going because it makes her happy and keeps her active.  I LOVE YOU MOMMY!!! Crazy Love – Crazy Movie

I just saw the most amazing movie. It was a documentary called Crazy Love, co-directed by my boy Fisher Stevens. It’s the story of this couple, Burt and Linda Pugach. They meet in the 1950s in New York. He’s a lawyer and she works in some sort of office. Burt’s recently back in NYC from London where he’d made a film. They both had difficult childhoods in different ways. They start dating and he wines and dines her in a way that thrills and impresses her. The relationship is going along, not swimmingly, because she refused to have sex with him and he was insanely jealous, but the relationship is moving along. Most of her friends were getting married so she expected they would do so also. They start house hunting and ring hunting and boat hunting and doing everything in the world, but getting married. Her grandmother puts a question in her mind, and before she can ask him if he’s married, he gets a tip that she knows and tells her that he’s married, but getting a divorce. I’m guessing we all know where this is going. Of course he hadn’t filed for divorce as he’d told Linda, but he proffered some fake divorce papers (he is a lawyer) and continued to string her along. Eventually his wife called Linda and told her that she had no plans of ever granting Burt a divorce. Linda believed her and decided to break up with Burt. Burt is one of those “If I can’t have her nobody can.” Chaos ensues. Continue reading “Crazy Love – Crazy Movie”

Spring 2010 Texas Sunday

The ash cloud continues…I don’t think Iceland has been in the international news this much, ever!

The rain is still making an impact at Texas Motor Speedway, but the jet dryers are on the track. The forecast is bleak for the Nationwide Race tonight, but the Sprint Cup race is a possibility. I hope NASCAR doesn’t go for the halfway is good enough. Jeff Gordon says he didn’t help as much with getting Kasey signed as he did with Jimmie Johnson and with Mark Martin.

I can only imagine what Pooh would be saying watching Hammond in his cowboy hat. He’s such a clown. It makes me wonder though how long this team will stay together on Fox DW and Hollywood Hammond. If they switch out Chris Myers – fine – but I worry they’ll put Larry Mc or Krista Voda in one of those positions and make it all painful. Fox has pretty much decided we’ll get you hooked, then you’ll stay, no matter how we change things. Myers seems to be an old fashioned tv guy, which is outdated these days. While I cringe at the horrible new tv folks with their untrained voices, I also cringe at Myers with his horrific jokes and booming laugh. There’s a lot to be said for the middle path – trained voices, not as loud, and fewer jokes by unfunny people. A girl can dream…. Continue reading “Spring 2010 Texas Sunday”

2010 Spring Phoenix Saturday

I’m sitting here watching Race Day and getting revved up for the race.  I didn’t realize until last night that it was a Saturday night race.  Night races are not among my favorites, overall, but okay.   I was just watching Laila Ali and Carl Edwards.  Laila looks good and happy.  It seems the time out of the spotlight recently has been good for her.  Carl on the other hand looks tired, hot and aggravated.  This doesn’t bode well for his race this evening.  I think last night’s race took a lot out of him, bugs, wrecks, restarts, and all.

So this race starts an hour earlier and is 63 laps longer.  I was wondering why.  There’s been so much talk about shortening the races.  Kurt Busch, of all people, answered the question for me.  Apparently the sponsor wanted an extra gimmick, so we now have the 600KM race.  One good thing about the longer race is that they will have an extra pit stop so it won’t end up a gas mileage race, which is just ahead of short-track races in my book.  Tonight is Elliott Sadler’s 400th career start.  He’s been a part of the sport for 12 years.  Yay Elliott!!!  Jimmie said he doesn’t know what to expect, which makes me kinda hopeful.  Jimmie rubbed Chani’s baby bump and Hermie said he wasn’t going to talk about Jimmie’s glasses, because the last time he did, she didn’t like it.
