2010 Fall Kansas Sunday

So the ESPN Kansas broadcast started out in typical NASCAR on ESPN fashion – the Countdown show had video, but no audio. Yesterday’s Countdown show wasn’t shown, as usual, due to a college football game. It is a mystery to me that I see a zillion ESPN channels in the channel guide, but regularly at the scheduled time for Countdown I’m stuck watching some other sporting event. Now interestingly at race time there was a notification at the bottom of the screen that the race would be broadcast on ESPN Classic. It seems to me that it would be a better idea to schedule the race on a channel that does not have something else scheduled during that time, and have a plan B that is announced early when problems arise. When I checked ESPN Classic a few hours before the race the channel guide indicated that it was a channel that was not a part of my cable package. That’s unacceptable. It doesn’t really matter if it is or is not. NASCAR is a sport of the people and should be readily available to the people. I wish they would put it back on ABC or ESPN should have a channel dedicated to motorsports, or dedicated to programming which conflicts with current broadcasts – basically a dedicated overflow channel. Pontypool Rocks!

I get home from work; exhausted and stressed. I turn on the television and check out the offerings on the channel guide. I see the following description:

Pontypool
Movie, Horror, Suspense (2008) Stephen McHattie, Lisa Houle.
A virus that spreads through the English language turns people into zombies.

Since I’m not quite ready to dive into anything else I decide to give it a try. This is an amazing movie. For anyone who loves movies, interesting, quirky movies, this one is a must see. I expected a zombie movie, but I didn’t expect anything more. This one has a bit more to offer. Check out Pontypool the next time you have the opportunity.

2010 Summer Chicagoland Saturday

As we reach the halfway point of the NASCAR season, a surprise winner emerges in the Windy City (well, near the windy city to be more precise) MWR’s David Reutimann. It was a very emotional win for Reuti-Tooty and the Legend Buzzy Reutimann was there to experience the celebration. While this was Reutimann’s second career win, nobody but the announcers seem to really count the first one – a victory in Charlotte when the race was ended by rain and Reutimann didn’t pit with the leaders. Congrats to Reutimann and Michael Waltrip Racing. Continue reading “2010 Summer Chicagoland Saturday”
