2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race Twelve Charlotte Thursday

Congrats to the 2018 NASCAR Hall of Fame class. I was happily shocked to see Ray Evernham and Ron Hornaday included so early. I love ’em both, but it seems a bit soon. I am thrilled that Robert Yates is in while he’s still with us and I hope the same can be said at the induction ceremony. I’m glad to see Red Byron inducted. I am a firm believer in the people – champions – who were the foundation of NASCAR – I almost said ‘our sport’ – getting inducted long before the most recent superstars. If I had my way Ray and Horny wouldn’t have been eligible for another decade at least and wouldn’t have been inducted until well after then – if they continued to only induct 5 per year. I’m a fan of both and feel they should be in the Hall of Fame – just not this soon. Too many ‘racers’ from back in the day, who built NASCAR and fought for its very existence, are not honored in the Hall. Get well Afterburner. I’m glad he’s doing as well as he is and that he has hope of a full recovery. Continue reading “2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race Charlotte”

2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race Ten Talladega

Dale Earnhardt Jr’s final Spring Talladega race as a full-time Cup driver is a blue sky beauty. Temperatures will be in the 70s at race time according to Myers – warmer there than here in the Atlanta metro area apparently. Jr will start the race on outside pole beside Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Chris Myers was on the desk with ‘Big Daddy’ Jeff Gordon and ‘DW’ Darrell Waltrip. Hooray!!! I finally got to see most of the pre-race show for a change. There was still entirely too much Larry McReynolds and Michael Waltrip, but things seem to be moving in the right direction getting them out of the seats at the desk. Now if we could limit them to 1 minute or less until their contracts expire the broadcast would improve dramatically. Yowsah what a command from Frank Pickering – a suit for GEICO. He brought the enthusiasm. Stages are 55-55-78 for this race. Continue reading “2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race Ten Talladega”
