2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Three Las Vegas

Matt KensethQualifying was rained out on Friday for both the Nationwide series and the Sprint Cup series, so both series lined up based on owner’s points. The rain stopped on Saturday long enough for the drivers to get in both scheduled Sprint Cup practice sessions and the full Nationwide race. Congratulations Sam Hornish on your second NASCAR Nationwide Series win!

Race Day dawns sunny and beautiful in Las Vegas (and in the Atlanta metro area), temperature in the mid 60’s. Continue reading “2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Three Las Vegas”

Petty Kyle Living Up To His Name, AGAIN, Regarding The Denny Hamlin Fine

kylepettySo, Denny Hamlin has been fined $25,000 for comments he made following last week’s Sprint Cup Race in Phoenix. He said he, “didn’t want to be a pessimist…” then proceeded to say the current car does not drive as well as the previous car. As he was speaking I recognized the potential for trouble from NASCAR. Before the season was truly underway, it was reported that NASCAR told the drivers NOT to make negative comments about the new car to the media. They were trying to avoid the negativity that began early with the Gen 5 car (the C.O.T.). Continue reading “Petty Kyle Living Up To His Name, AGAIN, Regarding The Denny Hamlin Fine”

2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Two Phoenix

20130303_victory_lane_edwards_575x459cCongratulations to Kyle Busch on his win in yesterday’s Nationwide Series Race at Phoenix. KyBu hasn’t won a Nationwide race in 24 races, so it was good to see him in victory lane. Of course since he led 142 of 200 laps he kinda stunk up the show. He had a slow pit stop and a pass through penalty, started at the back and still drove up through the field to re-take the lead. Masterful performance.

Myers says it’s an overcast day in the desert. Looked cloudy to me. I’m just saying. There’s a lot of attention on the Bowyer – Gordon affair last year at Phoenix and how it will affect today. Seriously! That’s history. Continue reading “2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Two Phoenix”

2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race One Daytona

06Vce2ocNZgds_575x459cErin Andrews, let’s don’t and say we did. She was ridiculous on pit road. 50 Cent seems to be having fun. James Franco seems extremely ‘not-in-the-mood’ for all of this. I wonder if he’s very hung over. He did his interview with Rutledge wearing huge sunglasses though its a cloudy day in Daytona.

I enjoyed the broadcast of the driver introductions, though I wish the camera work would’ve been more smooth and shown all of the drivers better. I love driver introductions.

Danica Patrick leads the field to the green flag. Jeff Gordon leads the first lap. Continue reading “2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race One Daytona”

2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series Race 1 Daytona

071yeIVaKycTM_blog_1920x1238cCrazy race with lots of Cup cars in the field! I started watching on a restart with 15 laps to go.
Caution is out with 5 laps to go, Michael Annett hits the wall.

Green, White, checkered restart. Crazy race heading toward the checkered flag turns into a massive crash with Kyle Larson’s car going into the catch fence and losing the front of his car as the engine and a tire becoming embedded in the fence. The other wheel flew over the fence and apparently hit a fan. Also other pieces of the debris hit fans in the grandstands causing assorted injuries.
