An Answer to the Letarte Question

So I finally found out what’s up with Letarte’s weight loss.  He worked out with his pit crew in order to spend more time with them and lost around 60 pounds in the process.  That’s a relief.  I guess watching Inside NASCAR might be useful.  I don’t particularly like the show.  It features some of my least favorite people, and Mikey.  I miss the weekly show, This Week In NASCAR which was similar, with lower production values, but it provided entertainment and information in an inviting manner.  The current show obviously has a much bigger budget, but it also feels like its hosted by the slicksters of NASCAR – and Mikey.  Letarte says if he gives Jeff Gordon his fifth championship he would consider retirement.  Sounds like Big Daddy chews Crew Chiefs up and spits them out.  I don’t know if I’ll make this a weekly watch, but that was the first episode I didn’t HAVE TO turn off before the end.

Crazy Love – Crazy Movie

I just saw the most amazing movie. It was a documentary called Crazy Love, co-directed by my boy Fisher Stevens. It’s the story of this couple, Burt and Linda Pugach. They meet in the 1950s in New York. He’s a lawyer and she works in some sort of office. Burt’s recently back in NYC from London where he’d made a film. They both had difficult childhoods in different ways. They start dating and he wines and dines her in a way that thrills and impresses her. The relationship is going along, not swimmingly, because she refused to have sex with him and he was insanely jealous, but the relationship is moving along. Most of her friends were getting married so she expected they would do so also. They start house hunting and ring hunting and boat hunting and doing everything in the world, but getting married. Her grandmother puts a question in her mind, and before she can ask him if he’s married, he gets a tip that she knows and tells her that he’s married, but getting a divorce. I’m guessing we all know where this is going. Of course he hadn’t filed for divorce as he’d told Linda, but he proffered some fake divorce papers (he is a lawyer) and continued to string her along. Eventually his wife called Linda and told her that she had no plans of ever granting Burt a divorce. Linda believed her and decided to break up with Burt. Burt is one of those “If I can’t have her nobody can.” Chaos ensues. Continue reading “Crazy Love – Crazy Movie”

2010 Spring Talladega Sunday

It’s Talladega Sunday and mostly sunny here in Atlanta and the same in Talladega. Hooray! I’m happy to say the storms weren’t nearly as damaging as predicted. The only issue I experienced from the storms was a loss of internet connectivity. If that’s the worst that that particular storm system brought – it was a good day.

Kenny Wallace said what I’ve been saying. We’re both worried about Richard Childress. Shell/Pennzoil has lost another major sponsorship. Kenny said they have lost eight major sponsorships including Shell/Pennzoil, Holiday Inn, and Jack Daniels. Hermie said the conversation about moving Shell/Pennzoil started last year when there were issues with Happy Harvick and disgruntled employees and the race results weren’t great. 2010 Spring Talladega Saturday

All track activity Saturday at Talladega called off
Cup quals canceled; Nationwide race moved to Sunday

That headline from NASCAR.com says it all. I’m quite a Talladega fan and have been looking forward to this race since the start of the season. No qualifying means my boy starts on the pole – not horrible, but it might make it tough for him to dawdle along at the back. Of course, these days with Big Daddy being a Big Baby and Junior always being undependable, its not like Jimmie would’ve had a teammate to hang around the back of the pack with anyway. (And no I’m not forgetting Mark Martin, I’m just ignoring him right now.) Smoke and Newman tend to run with (or ahead of) the pack so they wouldn’t be options in the dawdle game. So it will be interesting to see what happens Sunday. Continue reading “2010 Spring Talladega Saturday”

Spring 2010 Texas Sunday

The ash cloud continues…I don’t think Iceland has been in the international news this much, ever!

The rain is still making an impact at Texas Motor Speedway, but the jet dryers are on the track. The forecast is bleak for the Nationwide Race tonight, but the Sprint Cup race is a possibility. I hope NASCAR doesn’t go for the halfway is good enough. Jeff Gordon says he didn’t help as much with getting Kasey signed as he did with Jimmie Johnson and with Mark Martin.

I can only imagine what Pooh would be saying watching Hammond in his cowboy hat. He’s such a clown. It makes me wonder though how long this team will stay together on Fox DW and Hollywood Hammond. If they switch out Chris Myers – fine – but I worry they’ll put Larry Mc or Krista Voda in one of those positions and make it all painful. Fox has pretty much decided we’ll get you hooked, then you’ll stay, no matter how we change things. Myers seems to be an old fashioned tv guy, which is outdated these days. While I cringe at the horrible new tv folks with their untrained voices, I also cringe at Myers with his horrific jokes and booming laugh. There’s a lot to be said for the middle path – trained voices, not as loud, and fewer jokes by unfunny people. A girl can dream…. Continue reading “Spring 2010 Texas Sunday”
