HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!! Well, a day late, its time for the kids to race. The race was scheduled for Saturday night. Last night it rained about 30 minutes before the race was scheduled to begin. When coverage started the jet dryers were on the track. After about 10 minutes of watching them and listening to Adam Alexander, Mikey Waltrip and Larry McAlabama babble NASCAR postponed the race. Apparently there was a storm headed their way that stretched into Iowa. You could see lots of lightning in the distance. It was pretty, but as the National Weather Service warns, “If you can see lightning you’re too close.”
So several cars that qualified better are starting from the back. Ryan Blaney hit the wall yesterday in qualifying and had to go to a backup car. Supposedly Erik Jones was raving about how Drew did practicing his car and getting it setup Friday and Saturday. Ty Dillon had to start at the back for unapproved adjustments. According to Jamie Little the crew came in this morning to find out someone left the air conditioner/cool box on all overnight. According to Larry Mc a couple of drivers are in the back because they missed the driver’s meeting yesterday.
Matt Kenseth’s son Ross is making his first Xfinity Series start. He started on the front row – outside pole – and led the first lap.
A competition caution is scheduled for lap 25.
In the 25 laps, Ryan Blaney made it to fourth from the rear of the field.
Jeremy Clements stayed out until one to go and was at the front of the field when they were approaching the green so they ended up four wide because they weren’t sure where they needed to be when JC went into the pits.
Seems like the field has settled in. The Sprint Cup has the weekend off. Trucks ran Friday in Iowa. I slept through it. Apparently Erik Jones won.
With 49 laps to go 22 drivers are penalized on a caution because NASCAR said pit road was open, but the guy running the pit road light didn’t hear it so the light was still red. The front runners stayed out, but other folks came in to the pits while the light was red.
They finally sort out the restart order and now they’re underway with less than 40 laps to go.
They restart with 18 to go and Erik Jones and Ryan Blaney leading them to the green.
Caution is out with 17 to go for Dakoda Armstrong spinning into the wall.
Chase Elliott who brought out the last caution with a spin get the free pass.
They will restart with 12 to go. Again Ryan Blaney and Erik Jones will lead them to the green.
Can someone explain to Larry that when you begin a sentence with, “I know we’ve talked about it a lot – the storylines in the top 5” he just told himself to shut up because what’s he’s saying has already been exhaustively covered, therefore he’s being repetitive at best. If it has already been said or talked about a lot, shut up, or talk about something else.
Erik Jones passed Ryan Blaney for the lead on lap 11.
Ryan Blaney just lost second to Austin Dillon with 5 to go.
Ryan Blaney just passed Austin Dillon for second with 2 to go.
Erik Jones wins.
He drove around a bit looking for Victory Lane. He thanks Drew Herring who “shook this thing down for us 2 days ago and got it right”. Yaaayyyyy Drew!!!
Congrats to BooBoo & Amy on their engagement!
