Of course, this is the motorsports’ fan’s dream weekend starting with the Monaco GP Formula 1 race, the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600. I’m looking forward to great action tomorrow. I didn’t do a blog entry for the All-Star Race though I watched it. It really wasn’t worth talking about. So this week the boys are still in Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600 – the longest race of the year. I’m hoping it will be a good one. I considered going, but couldn’t quite work out the logistics. Maybe next year.
One bit of news from the week thrilled me – Jeff Gordon will be replacing Larry Mc in the FOX booth in 2016! I’m excited. It sounds like the weak link is being shuffled out. It seems he’ll be on the desk with Myers and Mikey making the Pre-Race and the Hollywood Hotel segments unwatchable – but they’re already that when DW isn’t around. Seems like FOX is stepping up its game and hiring quality for a change. Maybe they’re anticipating genuine competition, for a change, from NBC. TNT never offered serious competition and ABC/ESPN were pretty lax in the end leaving FOX the undisputed leader in NASCAR coverage. Now that they’ve decided to torture NASCAR fans with the FS1 (which is a miserable replacement for SPEED) they’ve opened the door for real competition from the new kid on the block with the lack of quality, professional talent on FS1 (and FS2). I think Big Daddy will do a fine job on the desk. The news got me excited for next year.
Congrats to the KyBu’s on the birth of BabyBu, their first son Brexton Locke Busch. Samantha heeded his request to keep her legs closed until after the All-Star Race. Brexton was born May 18. KyBu tickled me when he said that.
Juan Pablo Montoya won his second Indianapolis 500. It was a good race.
The pre-race ceremonies for the Charlotte race was nice. The pipe band, the bugler, the choir were all enjoyable. It would be nice if we saw a driver intro where they came out introducing a soldier who was with them, or something special like that.
Boring race. I was in the room with it and glanced up occasionally, but it just seemed a bit uneventful.
Carl Edwards wins the race.
Denny Hamlin has been called to the NASCAR hauler for trying to get a caution. He was complaining about a migraine after earlier saying he thought they’d lost their exhaust system.
