Beautiful day at Texas Motor Speedway. Clouds pass over occasionally. The time changed last night so we’ll probably hit darkness before the end of the race. Matt Kenseth leads them to the green flag.
This race feels long. Cold weather arrived yesterday, so I’ve been busy making chili today, and the race has still seemed really, really long.
I saw a commercial for the 2015 Atlanta race. As much as I missed going to the race this year, I wasn’t remotely tempted. It was in the 50s today with a 10 – 15 mph wind. This is Georgia. That is not weather conducive to outdoor activities. That’s the best I would expect for March, but I doubt it will be that good. The March race has recently endured snow flurries, sleet, and a tornado. After all that the race went away. The October race was marginally warmer, at best, was moved to Labor Day weekend. The last late October race was good, quite enjoyable – though quite chilly by the end of the race. I thought the Labor Day weekend race would provide the best of all worlds. The first year of the Labor Day race was fantastic! Big fun, though the Cup race was a bit boring. The truck race and the Nationwide race were good that year though. As the years continued the Nationwide race became more and more boring. The Cup race only improved when they race on a Tuesday due to a Tropical Storm drowning out the Sunday night race. When they raced on Sunday night the race was boring. Then they got rid of the truck race, which had become the best race of the weekend replacing it with a modified race. The modified race was okay, but I felt cheated.
This year I checked the schedule and saw the lack of a truck race. I was less than thrilled but was going to at least go to the Nationwide race. Then I tried to get a hotel room. It was sold out. Considering the hotel choices and our lack of enthusiasm for the racing and I chose to forgo the race this year.
Jimmie wins!!!
Yowsah, did things get interesting! After the race Jeff Gordon went over, steaming mad, to try to talk to Brad Keselowski about running into him and cutting down his tire causing him to spin out, bringing out a caution. He totally bulldozed his way between Jimmie and Jeff. Well, of course, when Jeff got over there Brad was surrounded by his team who were physically holding Jeff back from getting anywhere near Brad. That went on for a while as Jeff struggled to get to Brad. Eventually Kevin Harvick walked up behind Brad and gave him a shove in Jeff’s direction. When Jeff got his hands on the neck of Brad’s shirt he drug him over and a melee erupted! Lots of pushing, shoving, yanking, and a few punches. Brad finally got away and was making a big show of rinsing out his mouth and spitting bloody water. Jeff on the other hand had a fat lip, but never referenced it. Brad is always willing to start something, then in a hurry to hide behind his crew. KHarv told him this was his problem he should take care of it as he pushed him. Brad whined like a baby about the fight. He was deeply trying to play the wounded victim. He never takes responsibility for his actions.
