2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Sixteen Sonoma

201406221817658789060Road-course time. Definitely not the race I most look forward to, but maybe it won’t be so bad. Yesterday’s Road America NNS race was a snooze-fest, at least what I saw of it. I left and ran errands.

I was travelling without laptop last weekend so I didn’t get to congratulate Jimmie Johnson and the 48 team on FINALLY winning at Michigan. What a Father’s Day present. His father was in upper Michigan with his brothers at an off-road truck race, but his girls were in Michigan with him. CONGRATS 48 Team!

Lots of talk during the week about Biffle and Carl Edwards’ contract negotiations and the possibilities. Basically it seems most people figure Biffle will stay at Roush, because there aren’t better options available at this time. They figure Carl will leave, probably for Joe Gibbs racing. It’s all conjecture at this point, but quite a bit of chatter. I heard someone mention the other day that Jack Roush said he’d never be put over a barrel like he was the last time contract negotiations came about.

Now that there’s less than 30 laps of racing there’s starting to be a flurry of cautions and spins. Allmendinger goes around. Gilliland goes around. Hamlin goes around. Kyle Busch goes around. Earlier Dale Jr. hit the curb and bounced off into Matt Kenseth who hit the tire barrier hard and was out of the race. Bowyer also went around, but came back for a decent finish.

Jeff Gordon made a desperation run at the end, but Carl wins for the first time at a road course! Congrats!
