I forgot about Nashville last night. That spate of reruns really took it off my ‘must see’ list. I watched dvr’d episodes of a new guilty pleasure – Supernatural. I watched it tonight. It wasn’t a rerun. It picks up the story a month after last week’s episode. Boy, obviously Spring is in the air with the way the relationships have developed on this episode.
Deacon is now in love with the vet. Really? Okay. I know Rayna disappointed him, but Deacon is old enough to know better – of course, I said the same thing when he fell for Juliette’s foolishness. So he brings a puppy and a puppy doctor on the road. Okay. Hard for me to imagine Juliette would be okay with that. She seems to be a bit of a control freak when it comes to things that don’t matter. Then we discover that thought they’ve spent very little time apart, somehow Deacon has neglected to tell his new love about his old love and his momentary lapse of reason BEFORE taking her to travel on their dime. Deacon is smarter than that too – especially with Juliette’s volatility. Maybe the pollen is causing Deacon to be in love in a month?
Rayna is still acting surprised when she walks up on her girls (or if they walk up to her). It’s so weird! So now they want to sing. Okay, typical dream for a girl and with Juliette proving you don’t need much talent to get famous, it’s believable except for the part of it suddenly happening. As big of a Juliette fan as both daughters are and with a mother in the business and Uncle Deacon in the business it seems it would’ve been mentioned when the eldest daughter turned 5 or so – seems unrealistic otherwise since they are both such massive Juliette fans.
Juliette and her mother’s sober buddy… Wow. He started out as a no-nonsense, smart, dedicated, dependable professional and has now turned into another chump. That was trite at best. Next episode’s preview indicates sober buddy, Dante?, gets kissed by his sponsee. I’m sure that’s just her kissing him to try to get his attention and trying to get her friend back. Trite. Too typical. Too predictable.
I laughed when Gunnar introduced Blondie to the new neighbor. The last time a guy (Avery) introduced her to someone (Gunnar) she ended up in bed with the someone (Gunnar). If I were writing the episode Gunnar would end up in bed with the new neighbor. The previews indicated the neighbor will make a play for Scarlett. I hope it doesn’t go so predictably and the preview is a swerve. That actor had chemistry with the actor portraying his brother and has chemistry with the new neighbor – nothing with Scarlett. And the little spat regarding the contract was completely ludicrous. They’re in love (once again the magic of this ‘month’). Yuck! I was hoping when she remembered she didn’t come to Nashville for a music career that she would decide to go back to her life and wherever she came from. Curses! Foiled again! I can keep hoping she will go away.
Teddy and that whack chick in Rayna’s house – SERIOUSLY???? That’s just foul! Sadly I can’t even think ‘he can’t be that stupid’ because he’s proven time and time again he is that stupid. If he simply wants to lose everything in his divorce, he should just sign over everything to her and move in with his woman.
Lamar’s ‘episode’ was rather predictable, though the timing was earlier than I expected. Since Lamar has not been given much screen-time it isn’t a matter of great urgency or concern for me. Character development is missing from this show therefore cliffhangers are a bit hollow.
Tandy was in this episode again playing Rayna’s nanny for no particular reason. I can’t figure out if she actually has a job and how she can afford to take so much time off whenever. I thought she worked for Lamar, but she never seems to actually work anywhere and we’ve not seen her do anything for ages. It seemed her character would be a conniving shark who is on Rayna’s side if its convenient and profitable. Now her character just seems to show up like a prop. Rayna seems to need a friend – a girlfriend – but she and Tandy don’t seem to actually have a genuine relationship. Rayna needs to reconnect with an old girlfriend. Deacon could be her friend except I really want them to get together.
If they continue with new episodes I will continue to give this show a try – when I remember it’s on. Actually I’ll probably just continue to dvr it and watch it another time. I really appreciate being able to fast forward through those tired little songs.
