Cars in field: 40
Pole: Ryan Blaney (12)
Outside Pole: Alex Bowman (48)
Stages: 35-60-65
Weather: Partly sunny, 86°F, Feels like 93°, Feels like (shade) 93°, Wind SSW 8 mph, Wind Gusts 8 mph
The televised race is virtually unwatchable because they are spending the majority of time showing weird shots of parts of a car through plastic, the track surface, shots from very high above the track so you can’t really identify car numbers, windscreen shots, dark car interiors and other really boring and uninformative shots.
Caution on lap 11 of 160 for a spin by some car that is shown too far away to identify. MRN identifies him as Casey Mears (66). Now the television broadcast is finally showing the car on pit road from a distance close enough to see the car number.
Caution on lap 18 of 160 for spins by Todd Gilliland (34) and Tyler ‘TyRed’ Reddick (45). Reddick tagged the wall. Todd Gilliland chased the car left and into Reddick sending both around. Gilliland kept it off the wall. Reddick nosed into the inside wall.
Caution on lap 27 of 160 big crash involving Darrell ‘Bubba’ Wallace (23), Kyle ‘KyBu’ Busch (8), Alex Bowman (48), Austin Cindric (2), and others. Bubba got a push from Kyle Larson (5) and it upset the 23 car sending Wallace across the right front of Joey Logano (22) hood into KyBu (8) who was spinning due to Carson Hocevar (77) getting into him. Ricky Stenhouse Jr (47) spins. Austin Hill (33), ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11), Noah Gragson (4), Riley Herbst (35), and Zane Smith (38) were also collected in the incident. Looks like Bowman may have gotten pushed into Stenhouse sending both spinning.
At 2034 eastern the red flag is out. Caution flag is out 2041 eastern.
Alex Bowman (48) is scored out of the race according to MRN, so that locks Tyler Reddick (45) into the play-offs.
Restarting on lap 33 of 160.
Kyle Larson (5) wins stage one.
If a driver who has already won this season wins, Alex is in the playoffs. If there’s a new winner, Alex Bowman is out of the playoffs.
At the line Ross Chastain (1) edges ahead of Joey Logano (22) to win stage two.
MRN reports Chase Elliott (9) and teammate William ‘WilliB’ Byron (24) pit before pit road opens. They both say their cars are sputtering due to low fuel.
Caution on lap 148 of 160 for a spin from the lead by Joey Logano (22). Erik Jones (43) got into Logano who chased it down across Buescher’s hood and into the infield grass.
Restarting on lap 152 of 160.
Ryan Blaney (12) wins!
Cole Custer (41) and Chris Buescher (17) spin into the infield at the line.
Alex Bowman (48) is in the playoffs!
Ryan Blaney (12) has the fastest lap of the race at 195.181 mph and receives a playoff point.
I slept through all but six laps of stage two and all but twelve laps of stage three.
What I saw was enjoyable when the broadcast showed the racing from outside the cars and from a reasonable distance which allowed me to see the car numbers and follow the action.
