Cars in field: 38
Pole: Austin Hill (21)
Outside Pole: Jesse Love (2)
Stages: 25-25-63
Weather: Cloudy, 68°F, feels like 63°, Wind N 8 mph
Cloudy, cool and breezy in Talladega for the start of the race.
On lap 3 of 113 the outside lane is so far ahead of the other two lanes it looks like they’re single-file. Not much action showing on the television broadcast.
They really are single file by lap 19 of 113.
MRN is steadily calling the event indicating someone will pop out of line and finally on lap 22 of 113 an inside lane is forming. Parker Kligerman formed another inside lane .
Caution on lap 23 of 113 for Justin Allgaier (77) hitting the inside wall hard. He appears angry. A replay shows that Riley Herbst (98) took the air off or tapped the left rear corner spinning Allgaier out. He said on the radio that he thought he was on fire, so he was out of the car quickly.
Jesse Love (2) wins stage one under caution.
The biggest problem with ‘plate races’ in the Xfinity series is that these kids have a completely different philosophy of racing and a lack of a racer’s drive or attitude. They don’t race for the majority of the events, riding around in place waiting until the last lap or two to make a move; resulting in a boring event.
Restarting on lap 30 of 113 with Jesse Love (2) and his teammate Austin ‘BigCountry’ Hill (21) on the front row.
So far on lap 46 of 113 they’re in three lines. The outside line is quite a distance ahead of the two inside last which are not well-populated. As I say that the inside lane has blended into the middle and top lanes on lap 47 of 113.
On the final lap of the stage a legit inside lane has formed.
Austin Hill easily wins stage two.
So far this has been a completely boring event. Too many folks out there who don’t know how to race overall on this kind of track.
Restarting on lap of 113 with Jesse Love (2) and Brandon Jones (9) on the front row.
The clouds appear darker on lap 57 of 113 though the rain is not predicted to arrive until tonight.
Caution on lap 64 of 113 for Ryan Sieg (39) and Parker Kligerman (48) made contact going to the middle lane and Kligerman clipped the rear end of Brandon Jones (9) turning him into the wall and collecting Clements (51), AJ Allmendinger (16), Ryan Truex (20), Sam Mayer (1), Josh Williams (11), Jeb Burton (27), Matt DiBenedetto (38), Leland Honeyman (42), Kyle Weatherman (91).
Restarting on lap 72 of 113 with Austin Hill (21) and Ryan Sieg (39) leading them to the green flag.
Caution on lap 73 of 113 for debris. A piece on the rear of the car flew off one of the cars at the rear of the field. Of course with the crappy camera views on the television broadcast you can’t see the number on the car to determine which team. MRN says it’s off the AJ Allmendinger (16) car. The bumper cover is required by NASCAR, so the team is working to replace it.
This seems to be a long caution period.
Restarting on lap 78 of 113 with Riley Herbst (98) and Ryan Sieg (39) up front.
Ryan Sieg (39) pits under green on lap 89 of 113 for a tire going down. Sieg goes a lap down. The only Dash4Cash drivers still on the track are Ryan Sieg (39) and AJ Allmendinger (16).
On lap 102 of 113 the field is single-file.
On lap 109 of 113 a second line has formed and is gaining on the lead.
On lap 11 of 113 a middle line has formed so they’re three-wide.
Caution on lap 111 of 113 for Austin Hill (2) spinning out in front of the field on Parker Kligerman’s (48) bumper. Collecting Patrick Emerling (07), Jeb Burton (27), Anthony Alfredo (5), Taylor Gray (19), Jordan Anderson (32), David Starr (66), Riley Herbst (98).
MRN reports Chandler Smith (81) and Parker Retzlaff (31) have both pitted due to a lack of fuel. The field is circling under the double yellow line on the apron in an attempt to save fuel.
Restarting in overtime with Parker Kligerman (48) and Josh Williams (11) on the front row.
Caution on lap 117 of 119 for a crash involving Parker Kligerman (48). There were a couple of cars that seemed to run out of fuel on the restart and drop backwards including Shane ‘SVG’ Van Gisbergen (97), then several cars got turned. The camera angles make it virtually impossible to see the car numbers.
Sammy Smith (8) is on pit road to fuel up as they come to the restart. Kyle Weatherman () is coasting on the track which is extending the caution. Reportedly he’s having a transmission issue.
Restarting in double-overtime with Jesse Love (2) and Leland Honeyman (42) Leading Joey Gase (35), Hailie Deegan (15), Brennan Poole (44), Caesar Bacarella (45), Ryan Ellis (43), Josh Bilicki (92), Riley Herbst (98), Mason Massey (14) to the green flag.
Ryan Ellis (43) has spun out and crashed. The race stays green.
Jesse Love (2) holds off Brennan Poole (44) and a late charge by Riley Herbst (98) for the win.
Ryan Sieg (39) holds off AJ Allmendinger (16) to win the Dash4Cash $100,000. Congrats.
That was a mediocre race overall and a dismal Talladega race. I’m very happy for Ryan Sieg (39) winning the big check.
