NASCAR 2012 Race 12 Charlotte

Happy MemorialDay!!!  Welcome to “Racing’s Greatest Weekend”.

The Nationwide race was a boring kick-off to the weekend. Lots of long green flag laps. Some cautions for engines blowing and people hitting the walls, but whomever took the lead kept it for long stretches. In the end the Sprint Cup guys took the top finishes:

  1. Brad Keselowski
  2. Denny Hamlin
  3. Kyle Busch
  4. Kevin Harvick
  5. Elliott Sadler
  6. Joey Logano
  7. James Buescher
  8. Justin Allgaier
  9. Sam Hornish Jr.
  10. Joey Coulter

It reminded me of why I was glad they made the drivers choose which championship they’d go for resulting in more races without a field full of Sprint Cup drivers.
Way to go Justin Allgaier and Joey Coulter though! I hope Sam’s luck improves and he gets to really show his talent in the near future. I’m looking forward to when he gets it together.

Formula 1 race was okay. I wonder how a real rain early on would’ve affected the finish. Congrats to Mark Webber on winning the Monaco Grand Prix! I’m pleased Fernando Alonso is leading the points and there are a couple of other drivers in striking distance.

  1. Mark Webber
  2. Nico Rosberg
  3. Fernando Alonso
  4. Sebastian Vettel
  5. Lewis Hamilton

Dario Franchitti wrecked Sato to win his third Indy 500. He was very emotional about the win. Ashley Judd is kinda living in crazy-koo-koo-land it seems. She was very effusive about his win, but a little – okay more than a little strange. Sato was pretty bummed, well angry about his spin out. Dario seemed to be under the impression that he gave Sato room, while Sato disagreed. I have to say, watching live, it appeared Sato was correct. Maybe the slo-mo might show something different.

  1. Dario Franchitti
  2. Scott Dixon
  3. Tony Kanaan
  4. Oriol Servia
  5. Ryan Briscoe

So now Race Day is on SpeedTV. They opening whining and complaining about The All-Star Race. I was sitting listening to Petty Kyle complain about the lack of racing and NASCAR’s bad choices. It made me wonder why he bothers to stick around NASCAR and watch the events. Then I remembered his severe aversion to work. If he stopped exhibiting his contrarian nature on-air weekly, he’d actually have to get a real job. He might even have to get a job for which he was actually qualified in order to pay his bills. If I were him I wouldn’t want to take on that herculean task either. I doubt he’s ever really looked inside himself to determine where his talents lie, so the excavation, while necessary, would take a long time and by then he’d most likely be past retirement age. Oh well…it constantly amazes me these days how Speed continues to make very enjoyable shows unwatchable. So, instead of revving up for the Coca-Cola 600 tonight by watching Race Day, which used to be my tradition, I’m catching up on some non-racing shows on the DVR. I’ll just wait for the FOX pre-show.

It was an okay race. Night race. Hurry up and get it over with feeling. Good to see Kasey Kahne running strong without the crazy mishaps. I predicted Kasey would win this race and so he did! My co-worker NASCAR buddies all had different choices and were pretty sure Kasey wouldn’t win. It’s good to be Right! The 48 pit stop issue, I also predicted, but, c’est la vie. One day I will see my driver win this race. In the meantime I celebrate the victory by the newest Hendrick driver. A well deserved win.

  1. Kasey Kahne
  2. Denny Hamlin
  3. Kyle Busch
  4. Greg Biffle
  5. Brad Keselowski
  6. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
  7. Jeff Gordon
  8. Kevin Harvick
  9. Carl Edwards
  10. Matt Kenseth
  11. Jimmie Johnson

Conrgrats to Kasey Kahne on his 13th Win in Sprint Cup and his 3rd Coca-Cola 600 Win!

Next week: Dover

GO 48!!!!
