Cars in field: 38
Pole: Cole Custer (00)
Outside pole: Josh Berry (8)
Stages: 85-85-130
Weather: As the field performs parade laps the weather report is predicting Rain starting in 3 min
The Xfinity series Play-offs begin tonight. Kevin Harvick and his daughter Piper gave the command. KHarv did a good job, but five-and-a-three-quarters-year-old Piper brought it.
The television broadcast is showing its boredom on lap 43 of 300 with gimmick shots and split-screens. I beat them to boredom about 25 laps ago. The PRN broadcast is about three laps behind the television broadcast so I can either listen or watch. Since the tv coverage is either split screens of a few cars or the bumper and/or hood of a car, I guess listening is the lesser of the evils. Listening to PRN’s broadcasts can often be a chore. Tonight, when it’s been a long, hard work week, it is definitely a daunting, herculean task.
Cole Custer (00) leads all laps in stage one.
On lap 141 of 300 Parker Kligerman (48) drives to the garage area.
Caution on lap 147 of 300 for a spin by Joe Graff Jr (38) with help from Connor Mosack (24).
Caution on lap 165 for a crash involving JRM teammates Josh Berry (8) and Sam Mayer (1) and Brandon Jones (1). Ryan Sieg (39) went for a spin as he attempted to avoid the crashed cars.
Justin Allgaier (7) wins stage two under caution.
Caution on lap 183 of 300 for a spin by Jeremy Clements (51) and Joe Graf Jr (38).
Jeffrey Earnhardt (45) and Jeb Burton (27) can’t seem to stay off each other and off the wall on lap 183 of 300.
Caution on lap 215 of 300 for a spin and wall tap by Austin Hill (21) with help from teammate Sheldon Creed (2).
On lap 226 of 300 Jeffrey Earnhardt heads to pit road after banging the wall a few times.
PRN says this is one of the biggest Xfinity series crowds they’ve seen all year. That’s rather sad, because when they show the
Josh Bilicki (91) brings out the caution with a slide on lap 248 of 300 with help from Rajah Caruth (44).
On lap 270 of 300 Dale Earnhardt Jr comes to pit road and calls the crew to come to car. The team get him out of the car. There’s smoke inside the car on pit road as they safety team come over with a fire extinguisher. Wendy Venturini of PRN said he was on fire inside the car. He checked his right heel after he got out of the car and was sitting on pit wall.
Dale Earnhardt Jr (88) said, “Fire underneath the dash. The suit caught on fire. Weird thing we were smoking a little bit under the dash. Then I saw the flames. Then my ankle got a little hot and I had to stop”. Alan Cavana of PRN says his suit is charred.
Justin Allgaier (7) wins wearing a helmet his daughter painted. His first Xfinity win at Bristol was 14 years ago.
That was an enjoyable race during the third stage. The teams raced throughout that stage and there were at least half-a-dozen legitimately competitive cars. The first two stages were boring. The rain never materialized at the track. Tomorrow night’s Cup event is scheduled to begin an hour earlier due to forecasted rain. Once they really started racing hard in stage three the television broadcast was okay with them using wider shots that showed the first six or so cars battling. Occasionally the shot would get too far away and they became indistinguishable and therefore I lost the context of the racing. Generally once they began racing hard tv limited the idiotic camera shots. They missed some of the live action, as usual, but generally showed replays of what they missed. Some incidents I heard about on the PRN broadcast and never saw on television.
Dale Jr (88) led 47 laps. His next race is Homestead.
Justin Allgaier (7) drives to Victory Lane with his father sitting in the right side window holding the checkered flag and with owner Dale Jr sitting in the left side window.
