Cars in field: 39
Pole: Chase Briscoe (14)
Outside pole: Aric Almirola (10)
Stages: 35-60-65
Chase Briscoe (14) gets the early lead as the field circles two-by-two. His teammate Aric ‘Afterburner’ Almirola (10) drops down behind him.
On lap 4 of 160 Ryan Blaney (12) went up to the third lane, and dropped back into line when no one joined him. The inside lane is strong – seven cars ahead of the outside lane.
On lap 6 of 160 we’re stuck looking at the track, tires and underside of a car for no apparent reason. I guess the tv guys are bored watching two lanes of cars driving around the track mostly side-by-side.
From the sound of it, MRN is basically saying they’re using these early laps as a practice session.
On lap 22 of 160 the outside lane finally gets momentum and goes to the lead.
The television broadcast has become unwatchable on lap 25 of 160 with a split screen of the inside of a car, followed by the inside of a car taking up the whole screen. TV has no interest at all in showing the track now. That idiotic shot remains on screen on lap 28 of 160. Super boring television.
Finally on lap 29 of 160 the shot gets out of the car and shows the cars on track.
The two top points holders for the regular season championship are battling for the lead as stage one comes to a close. ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11) is attempting to block both teammate Martin ‘MTJ’ Truex Jr (19) and Riley Herbst (36). Eventually Herbst gets dropped and fades back in the outside lane. Coming out of turn four Hamlin gets left in the middle and drifts backward.
Martin ‘MTJ’ Truex Jr (19) wins stage one.
Stage one was pretty dull until the final couple of laps; more a parade than a race. Two laps of racing out of 35 is pretty yucky.
MTJ (19) gets the early lead over Joey Logano (22) on the restart. In the lower lane Kevin ‘KHarv/Happy’ Harvick (4) shoves past MTJ Joey Logano (22) to the lead.
A third lane has formed and raced to the front of the field led by Chase Elliott (9) who is in a must-win situation to get into the playoffs. Chase drops to another lane. Allmendinger does not follow. Kyle Busch (8) pushes AJ Allmendinger (16) to the lead.
Logano pushes Elliott to the lead on lap 49 of 160.
The field is almost totally three-wide across.
MRN reports ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11) has bailed out of the action and drifted to the back on lap 50 of 160. They also report that since MTJ won the stage Hamlin must win the event to win the regular season championship.
MRN is calling an exciting race. TV is showing the bumper of a car from a windscreen of a car.
They finally pull out to show the field racing three wide, four-wide in some positions. Back to the gimmick shots quickly.
They’re racing pretty hard right now fifty-plus laps into the event – three-wide at least 7 rows deep. Nice change of pace. Too bad the television broadcast is spending a lot of time showing the inside of cars and random single cars driving and bumpers and all sort of other useless camera angles.
On lap 61 of 160 the inside lane is about ten lanes ahead of the outside lane. Only two lanes now, instead of the three and four-wide we were seeing in the previous ten laps.
MRN reports that Todd Gilliland (38) pits on lap 63 of 160 for a fluid leak.
On lap 64 of 160 a 3 panel split screen shot of a front right side of a car, the dark inside of a car and the front of the field rolling around the track. I have no idea the reason for that. Now on lap 66 of 160 we’re stuck looking out someone’s windshield at the bumper of the car in front of them. On lap 67 of 160 we’re looking at a coca-cola sticker and a metal post and the windshield and an arm of somebody driving. Totally dumb television. On lap 68 of 160 we were looking out the back of a car at a white bumper and hood. Then we switch to a back bumper, before showing a child in the grandstands then going to commercial. Really crappy race coverage.
Out of commercial we’re in a windshield shot for an extended period. Finally it widens to a shot of the racing action. Didn’t last long, back to a hood and a bumper and the door of a car to the side. Nothing that will really allow the viewer to follow the race visually.
Ryan Blaney (12) has taken the lead from Ross ‘WatermelonBoy’ Chastain (1) on lap 76 of 160.
MRN reports Todd Gilliland (38) returns to the track fourteen laps down.
Ricky ‘WreckySpinhouse’ Stenhouse Jr (47) is pushed to the lead on lap 79 of 160.
On lap 81 of 160 a groups of cars pit under green. Some Toyotas, and some Chevrolets pit.
One lap 82 of 160 the Fords pit under green.
MRN reports Hamlin’s 11 crew was over the wall too soon and ‘Desperate’ (11) has to serve a pass-thru penalty.
On lap 84 of 160 the remaining cars pit, a mixed bag of Chevrolets, and Fords. MRN reports there was contact on pit road. Television was showing a gimmick shot, so of course the viewer doesn’t get to see what happened.
The field is back to three-wide racing on lap 86 of 160.
On lap 87 of 160 they appear too have returned to double-file lap logging. TV is insisting on the silly shots so it is difficult at times to know what the field is doing since we are instead watching the inside or hood or bumper of a car.
On lap 89 of 160 we are shown a split-screen of the race and someone sitting in the dark leaning behind a post.
MRN reports a SpaceX rocket launch is going up behind the grandstands now on lap 91 of 160.
Kyle ‘KyBu’ Busch (8) is leading on lap 92 of 160. MRN continues to report on the rocket ascension and the race simultaneously.
Alex said he saw the launch at 3:15am that was carrying astronauts to the International Space Station.
Big wreck on lap 94 of 160 collects a lot of cars. Ty Gibbs (54) turns down into Ryan Blaney at the front of the field. Blaney turned directly into the outside wall, hitting it hard enough to lift the back wheels off the track and collecting Austin Cindric (2), Ricky Stenhouse Jr (47), Austin Dillon (3), Kevin Harvick (4), AJ Allmendinger (16), Kyle Larson (5), Christopher Bell (20), Alex Bowman (48), Brennan Poole (15), Tyler Reddick (45), Harrison Burton (21), Denny Hamlin (11), Ross Chastain (1), Riley Herbst (36). Super hard hit for Ryan Blaney nose first into the outside wall.
Brad ‘It’ Keselowski (6) wins stage two under caution.
Red flag is out.
Caution flag is out.
Multiple cars are getting a push to pit road including Stenhouse (47), Austin Cindric (2), and Harrison Burton (21).
Ty Gibbs (54) feels like he got pushed in a bad spot, though he also thanked Christopher Bell (20) for all of the pushes he gave.
MRN reports at 2128 Martin ‘MTJ’ Truex Jr (19) has clinched the Regular Season Championship.
Kyle Busch (8), Chase Elliott (9), Daniel Suarez (99) and Ross Chastain (1) win the race off pit road.
Restarting on lap 105 of 160 with Chase Briscoe (14) and KyBu (8) on the front row. Chase Briscoe and his teammate Afterburner (10) stayed out during this pit sequence.
Briscoe gets a push to the lead. KyBu on the outside lane has caught up and is battling Briscoe door-to-door.
MRN reports Austin Dillon (3) is headed to the garage on lap 106 of 160.
Stenhouse (47) says the 20 (Christopher Bell) was pushing at the wrong spot on the racetrack. He says he’s done that before. Stenhouse said he probably should’ve waited until they go on the straightaway.
On lap 114 of 160 the first dozen cars are running single-file. They are two or three-wide behind the top dozen.
On lap 117 of 160 the outside lane has gained momentum and passed the inside lane.
The outside lane now has a half-dozen cars single-file at the front of the field, with the inside lane dropping backward. On lap 119 there are almost a dozen single-file cars now.
On lap 121 of 160 the whole field is strung out single-file.
MRN reports on lap 122 of 160 there are fireworks going off over the beach.
While they’re logging laps, now is probably a good time for nap.
On MRN Rusty Wallace says green flag pit stops are coming around lap 145 of 150 of 160.
On lap 141 of 160 they’re running double-file.
On lap 143 of 160 a group of cars make green flag pit stops. Some Chevys and some Toyotas.
On lap 145 of 160 they are single-file throughout the field.
On lap 146 of 160 the rest of the field pits under green.
MRN reports Kyle Larson (5) had too many men over the wall and will have to serve a pass-thru penalty.
MRN says NASCAR has rescinded the penalty against Kyle Larson (5).
The outside lane has formed and is gaining on the inside lane on lap 151 of 160.
They’re racing double-file on lap 153 of 160.
On lap 155 of 160 Ryan Preece (41) rolled and flipped through the infield. MRN reports he got turned and spun down into the inside of the track and it caught air and began flipping through the infield. The car caught on fire. It gets extinguished then re-ignites. Caution is out.
TV began to show the action after the car was flipping. The replay shows him getting turned out and when the car got in the grass it just went airborne and began flipping and was making multiple revolutions between the times it would hit the ground. NASCAR digital says the car flipped ten times. MRN says the car flipped eleven-and-a-half times. I’m guessing they were only counting the number of times the car hit the ground and flipped since it would make several revolutions when it was in the air so I counted more than 10 at the end of the crash.
Preece is out of the car and on his feet. They brought a gurney over and Ryan walked over to the gurney and was rolled to the infield care center in an ambulance.
Chase Briscoe (14) is out of his car with too much damage to continue. Briscoe and teammate Preece made contact in the wreck. Rusty Wallace says he noticed the window net broke on the car. NASCAR digital says Preece got a push from Erik ‘EJ’ Jones (43) and came down on Chase Briscoe (41).
Restarting in overtime on lap 161 of 163 with Chris Buescher (17) and Kevin Harvick (4) on the front row followed by Brad ‘It’ Keselowski (6) and Chase Elliott (9)
Buescher gets the early lead.
White flag is out.
Brad ‘It’ Keselowski (6) is pushing his teammate and driver – Keselowski is part owner of the team – Chris Buescher (17) hard to the front
Elliott (9) is pushing Harvick (4) toward the front in the inside lane.
Chris Buescher (17) wins.
Chase Elliott (9) and Alex Bowman (48) will both miss the playoffs. Darrell ‘Bubba’ Wallace (23) points his way into the playoffs since a previous winner wins tonight’s race.
Bubba is all ‘ass’ and ‘shit’ through his MRN interview. Potty mouth.
Chase Elliott said the 9 car got into the owner’s points race.
Congrats to Regular Season Champ Martin ‘MTJ’ Truex Jr (19).
Kyle ‘KyBu’ Busch (8) says they all started to save fuel in the third stage, so they were all riding.
Dave Burns of NBCSports reports Ryan Preece (41) has been transported to a local medical center. At the end of their broadcast MRN also reported the same update on Preece.
