2022 NASCAR Duels At Daytona

Duel 1

21 cars in Duel 1 led by Kyle Larson (5) and William ‘WilliB’ Byron (24) will run 60 laps.

FoxSports has taken a page out of the NBC playbook and are showing their boredom early and often with gimmick camera shots.

Green flag pit stops underway on lap 36 of 60.

The parade continues. When MRN said 15 laps to go I was relieved this particular boredom will be done soon – fingers crossed.

Brad ‘It’ Keselowski (6) wins.

Idiot Austin Cindric (2) was blocking his teammate Ryan Blaney (12) resulting in their being unable to mount an attack on the leader and second place cars.

That was a stinker of a parade. Total waste of time. Generally one race is boring and one is more interesting – though last year they managed to make both snoozers.

DUEL 2

Alex Bowman (48) and Aric ‘Afterburner’ Almirola (10) will lead the 21 car field to the green flag – maybe 20 car as they are hand-pushing the 27 car of Jacques Villeneuve, before the field takes the green flag.

Dillon Welch of MRN says the car won’t fire. They’re saying the airbox is pressed against something causing the issue. They’ve replaced the airbox and had him try again with no luck so far.

Jacques Villeneuve’s 27 car finally fired up so he will start the Duel with the rest of the field.

The gimmick shots are in full-force on lap 4 of 60. That last thing – can’t call it a race…maybe call it speeding cars, was incredibly boring. Bumper-cam, side-view cam, windscreen cam shots make it more boring, because those shots are not visually engaging, nor entertaining, nor exciting.

They keep showing this awful shot that looks like crumpled garbage bags in the near-ground, the wall with Daytona written on it in the far-ground and the cars zip by momentarily. Awful shot.

‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11) spins coming onto pit road on lap 25 of 60. We we stuck with a gimmicky bumper cam shot when he was spinning.

On lap 40 of 60 the team pushes Jacques Villeneuve to the garage area.

The numbers are very difficult to read on dark paint schemes.

Austin Dillon (3) pits on lap 55 of 60.

Joey Logano (22) spins into the wall on the final lap. Logano tried to block Buescher and the get together. Harrison Burton (21) got some damage in the incident.

The event finishes under caution. Chris Buescher (17) wins.

That was another boring event.

It’s a school night. The events were boring and started too late. NASCAR should return the Duel races to afternoon events. That felt like a total waste of time.

Joey Logano said “the run came faster than I expected it to and I thought I was clear and I wasn’t. Dumb move”. He’s furious.
