Daytona Saturday

For the first time in recorded history, 49 of the 50 United States have snow on the ground. It started snowing yesterday during lunch and didn’t stop until sometime last night. And we’re not talking your typical Georgia dusting. This is how it looked when I got home from work yesterday.

NASCAR News – Jimmie won Duel Race #1 on Thursday and Kasey – my husband – Kahne won Duel Race #2.  I was having a good fan day to say the least.  Smoke came in second to Kasey!

So the big race is tomorrow.  Everything was rained out yesterday.  The high in Daytona today is supposed to be in the 40s.  Boy am I glad I didn’t get tickets for that race!  Tomorrow will be in the 50s which isn’t a good temperature for chill haters like me!

To continue…Due to rain yesterday in Daytona, the truck race was rescheduled for tonight. The Nationwide race was already scheduled for Saturday – they just missed out on  qualifying.  So the cars lined up based on last season’s standings with Kyle and Carl up front.  Menard bumped Chrissy Wallace in the first lap, spun her around and caused the first caution.  When they got started again, another caution took out quite a few cars including Danica in her Nationwide series debut.  This one caused by Bliss bumping someone.  The rest of the race was relatively calm with a few small incidences until something happened between Carl and Bradley K (possibly side-drafting, possibly Carl making a really dumb move) and Carl tapped BooBoo’s bumper and he turned toward the wall then flipped.  It was a mess – to say the least, but Jr came out okay.  In the end the Nationwide Race was a rather exciting finish with Tony Stewart holding Dewey Alligator off and winning.

The truck race was also a melee and Timothy Peters got his second career win as Todd Bodine crossed the start finish line sideways(literally).  Johnny Benson is back this season. Ted Musgrave was inthe race (though he was taken out of contention in a wreck caused by Ricky Carmichael hitting Horny’s bumper turning him into the wall and causing a mess. Ricky was so sad and apologetic and Horny said he couldn’t be mad at him.  Nelson Piquet Jr made his NASCAR debut and did okay.  Jennifer Jo Cobb was caught up in one of the early wrecks and taken out.  Not a great start to her Rookie of the Year campaign.

Four Wallaces racing at Daytona: Chrissy Wallace will start 35th today in the Nationwide race at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, and that will help her family make NASCAR history. Added with father Mike Wallace, cousin Steve Wallace and uncle Kenny Wallace, it’s the first time four family members have been
