2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race Twenty-Nine Dover

Congrats to Ben Rhodes on winning his first truck series race at Las Vegas on Friday night.

The stages for this race are 120-120-160.

Just a couple of thoughts on something that was in the news during the past week; NASCAR is attempting to capture the youth market. I believe those were the same people interested in voting for Bernie Sanders. NASCAR continues to make political statements – seemingly attempting to align itself closely with Donald Trump. NASCAR’s actions seem at odds with their stated goals. Not only are they making statements that likely would not appeal to the majority of the youth market, they are going out of their way to alienate a goodly chunk of their fans. They spent a lot of time and effort to appear inclusive and chase diversity, including banning the confederate flag. They turn around a few years later and volunteer their anti-first-amendment rights-stand that was espoused by the current president. Donald Trump’s statement isn’t surprising in light of his past behaviour proving his lack of knowledge of the Constitution. NASCAR has shown a lack of knowledge of proper protocol as they hold hands over hearts during the National Anthem, pledging themselves to a war song. One can overlook that inappropriate behavior. Constantly stating support for soldiers, the flag, and the country while stating a position against rights guaranteed by the Constitution is hypocritical as well as inappropriate. In a sense they are remaining consistent in attempting to restrict freedom of speech. They are also working against their attempts to distance themselves from their past and show their commitment to diversity. As a person with many family and friends in the military, I believe our fighting men and women are protecting our rights – our Constitutionally guaranteed rights. I recently had one say, “I served in the military for ten years. I believe a person has the right to protest however they want.” NASCAR, feel free to say thank you for your service – then maybe make an effort to understand exactly that their service to protect to and defend the Constitution of the United States of America provides the Freedom of Speech Americans enjoy.

Caution is out on lap 87 of 400 during green flag pit stops as Jeffrey Earnhdardt spins heading to the pits. Jeffrey hit the sand barriers and a couple sprang leaks. So the race is red flagged while they clean up the sand.

Cars are rolling under caution. Leader Martin Truex Jr had not made his green flag pit stop, so he gets the free pass.

MRN is saying on lap 88 the scoring pylon had all positions 88 to honor Dale Earnhardt in his retirement season.

Brad ‘It’ Keselowski wins stage one.

Caution – not sure for what.

‘Kutey’ Kyle Larson wins stage two.

Time to go shopping. Refrigerator issues following Tropical storm Irma power outages resulted in the trashing of all foodstuffs and a need to replenish.
