On lap 5 of 147 NASCAR digital hasn’t gotten going yet on lap-by-lap. Television has already started showing the track surface, wall, hoods, and drivers driving. Apparently NASCAR’s closed-door meeting with drivers only has indicated to the television broadcast crew that there won’t be any action worth following for this event.
By the time I finished typing that sentence lap-by-lap finally showed up. As Hermana Carlota used to say in high-school Spanish class – “Mas vale tarde que nunca”. She said it meant better late than never. I’ve since learned that’s not accurate. I’m pretty sure she was better than Peggy Hill, but a long way from fluent in the language.
Caution on lap 22 of 147 for Kris Wright (5) leaving debris on the track after visiting the wall.
Harrison Burton (25) wins stage one.
Justin Allgaier (7) wins stage two.
MRN’s Alex Hayden says the temperature in Darlington is the third warmest April 5th on record. The two hotter days were both 90 degrees in 1978 and 1942.
Caution on lap 112 of 147 for Taylor Gray (54) turning himself on the front bumper of Daniel Dye (10) and spinning into the inside wall. Gray simply wasn’t clear and tried to move up in front of Dye.
Caution on lap 118 of 147 for a spin by Garrett Smithley (14) off the front bumper of Ryan Ellis (71).
Christopher ‘CBell’ Bell (19) has a tire rub courtesy of Ross ‘WatermelonBoy’ Chastain (9) on lap 125 of 147.
Caution on lap 129 of 147 for a spin involving Anthony ‘FastPasta’ Alfredo (42). Kyle Sieg (28) also has damage in the incident. Leland Honeyman (70) got into the back of Harrison Burton (25) then tried to catch the car, hitting FastPasta in the process, and finally slid up into the wall in front of Josh Williams (11) who had nowhere to go.
CBell and Chastain make contact exiting their pit stalls.
Brandon Jones (20) wins easily.
Chase Elliott (17) finishes second.
Justin Allgaier (7) finishes third.
Blah at best. It was okay, nothing special, not horrible. The best part of it was that it was short. I’m already wishing the Cup race would be as short as this one.
