2024 NASCAR Cup Series Race Twenty-Nine Bristol

Cars in field: 37
Pole: Alex Bowman (48)
Outside Pole: Kyle Larson (5)
Stages: 125-125-250
Weather: Mostly sunny, 80°F, Feels like (sun) 78°, Feels like (shade) 78°, Wind NW 4 mph, Wind Gusts 7 mph

Hendrick teammates Alex Bowman (48), Kyle Larson (5) and William ‘WilliB’ Byron (24) lead the field to the green flag.

Alex Bowman (48) gets the early lead.

Caution on lap 4 of 500 for John Hunter ‘JHN’ Nemecheck (42) getting into the wall.

Restarting on lap 10 of 500 with Bowman and teammate Larson still up front. Bowman gets the early lead.

Kyle Larson (5) passes Bowman for the lead on lap 32 of 500.

Larson (5) wins stage one.

That stage was so boring the PRN guys spent most of it calling the battle to stay on the lead lap by the ten or so cars Larson put down a lap.

Restarting on lap 135 of 500 with Kyle Larson (5), Christopher ‘CBell’ Bell (20), Alex Bowman (48), Martin ‘MTJ’ Truex Jr (19) and William ‘WilliB’ Byron (24) up front.

PRN announces pit road speeding penalties for Ty ‘MyGrandfatherIsTeamOwnerJoeGibbs’ Gibbs (54), Josh Berry (4), Kyle ‘KyBu’ Busch (8) on lap 136 of 500.

They continue to circle around the track. Based on the television coverage apparently without any racing. We’ve watched single cars drive in circles and an extraordinary amount of video of some car’s right front side, the track surface, cars in the distance and the wall, with one shot seemingly having a bubble on the shot. Now it’s a split-screen of a driver driving in a dark car at night and the hood of some car and the track surface and the wall. BORING.

On lap 236 of 500 it appears Harrison Burton (21) has taken his car to the garage area to take a look at his reported power-steering issues.

Caution on lap 242 of 500 for a spin and a flat right front tire for Joey Logano (22).

Tyler Reddick (45) stayed out and will lead the field to the green flag alongside Kyle Larson (5) on lap 248 of 500.

Larson quickly takes the lead in turn two.

Kyle Larson (5) wins stage two holding off Martin ‘MTJ’ Truex Jr (19).

Restarting on 260 of 500 lap Kyle Larson (5), Martin ‘MTJ’ Truex Jr (19), ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11), Christopher ‘CBell’ Bell (20), Darrell ‘Bubba’ Wallace (23), Alex Bowman (48), Chase Briscoe (14), Ryan Blaney (12), Chase Elliott (9), William ‘WilliB’ Byron (24) up front.

Kyle Larson has led 250 of 188 laps so far. Boring. Television continues to show a lot of video of the track surface and outside wall with split-screens of a driver in a dark car or a dark pitbox. Truly awful television.

PRN reports on lap 307 of 500 that Alex Bowman (48) has clinched a spot in the next round.

PRN mentioned tomorrow is NASCAR Hall of Famer Leonard ‘Len’ Wood’s 90th birthday.

Caution on lap 328 of 500 for a crash into the outside wall by Corey LaJoie (7) possibly with assistance by Josh Berry (4). NBC doesn’t seem to have a good camera angle, but both replays show the 4 car move behind LaJoie and suddenly the 7 car turns toward the wall.

MTJ will have to serve a pit road penalty for too fast entering by .09 mph. So he will start at the tail-end of the field instead of second where he came out of the pits.

Restarting on lap 337 of 500 with Kyle Larson (5), ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11), Chase Elliott (9), Ryan Blaney (12), ‘Bubba’ Wallace (23), Alex Bowman (48), and Christopher ‘CBell’ Bell (20) at the head of the field.

Larson has led 343 of 380 laps so far. Cale Yarbrough has the record leading 500 of 500 laps.

PRN is trying to talk up the possibility of a late race caution to bring some excitement to this event on lap 487 of 500. I hope nothing happens to delay the end of this.

Kyle Larson (5) wins leading 462 of 500 laps. He’s passed Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon in total laps led with over 1300.

Congrats to Alex Bowman (48) on winning the pole and leading 35 laps.

Congrats to Chase Elliott (9) on his second place finish.

Eliminated from the play-offs

      • Ty Gibbs (54)
      • Martin Truex Jr (19)
      • Harrison Burton (21)
      • Brad Keselowski (6)

That was the most boring of three boring Bristol events this weekend. All were a waste of my time. The only bright spot was that they concluded relatively quickly.

PRN said the race was quick, running 2 hours 37 minutes, about 30 minutes shorter than the average race duration. They ran 165 laps – from the last yellow flag to the end of the race.
