1634 eastern the field is led onto pit road for track drying in turn four due to weather on lap 33 of 125. Chris Willner of MRN reports drops of rain blowing into his face on every wind gust. Caution is out on lap 1647 eastern.
Restarting on lap 36 of 125 with Ryan Sieg (39) and Brandon Jones (9) on the front row.

Caution on lap 48 of 125 for a crash involving Riley Herbst (98), Brandon Jones (9), Cole Custer (00) and Sam Mayer (1). Herbst turned himself on the front bumper of Ryan Sieg (39) and into the outside wall. Brandon Jones slid trying to avoid Herbst collecting teammate Sam Mayer (1). Cole Custer (00) hit the sliding Riley Herbst (98).
MRN reports the 9 team of Brandon Jones says the left side truck arm is broke and they’re done.
Restarting on lap 54 of 125 with John Hunter ‘JHN’ Nemechek (20) and Jesse Love (2) at the head of the field.
Riley Herbst (98) says he was trying to put himself into position because the end of the second stage might be the end of the race with rain. He grudgingly admits he wasn’t clear when he tried to slide in front of Ryan Sieg (39).
JHN (20) wins stage two.
Restarting on lap 64 of 125 with Carson Kvapil (88), Jeremy Clements (51) and Josh Williams (11), who stayed out, at the head of the field.
Caution on lap 65 of 125 for a crash involving Daniel Dye (10), Jeb Burton (27) and Lawless Alan (15). Dye turned sideways into the outside wall and Alan had nowhere to go.
Daniel Dye (10) has taken his car to the garage.
Restarting on lap 71 of 125 with John Hunter ‘JHN’ Nemecheck (20) and Carson Kvapil (88) leading.
MRN reports the restart is under review by NASCAR.
Shane ‘SVG’ Van Gisbergen (97) will have to serve a pass-thru penalty due to changing lanes before the start-finish line.
MRN’s Jeff Striegle reports rain is not far outside of turn four on lap 95 of 125.
On lap 107 of 125 MRN’s Alex Hayden reports turns three and four are under cloud cover now.
Jeff Striegle says the moisture from the cloud is evaporating before it gets to the racetrack.
Justin Allgaier (7) has come out of fuel saving mode and has moved from sixth to second position.
On lap 109 of 125 Carson Kvapil (88) pits for fuel. Teammate Allgaier (7) inherits the lead.
John Hunter ‘JHN’ Nemechek (20) is catching up to leader Allgaier (7), as are Sheldon Creed (18) and Sammi Smith (8).
Creed (18) passes JHN (20) for second on lap 112 of 125.
MRN reports the temperature has dropped about 10 degrees and the clouds have lowered. He said if it happened in your neighborhood the street lights will have come on.
Caution on lap 116 of 125 for a crash by Kyle Weatherman (91). Weatherman got out of the car and knelt in front of it. The car doesn’t turn after losing a right front tire, instead hitting the outside wall and bursting into flames.
MRN’s Mike ‘Bagman’ Bagley reports it is sprinkling in turn three as the cars circle under caution.
NASCAR waves off the green flag on lap 121 of 125. Bagman says the rain has picked up in turns three and four. Dave Moody in turns one and two says it’s the same weather there. The cars continue to circle under caution.
NBCSports shows the Overtime banner indicating they will restart beyond the advertised distance. NASCAR Race Center is now showing the race distance as 126 laps.
MRN reports the fans are scattering for cover as they circle under caution.
Moody says it’s almost out of the sprinkle category. Bagley says they’ve almost lost the racetrack in turn three; they’re getting it pretty hard. MRN reports NASCAR has told the teams to bring the cars down pit road . The cars line up on pit road on lap 123 of 127. Red flag at 1825 eastern. Jeff Striegle says the rain moves out quickly, but track-drying could take a while.
This coverage is on the verge of delaying IndyCar series coverage. I hope NASCAR just calls it.
MRN reports the rain has moved out at 1828 eastern. Track drying is underway at 1829. Jeff Striegle says the jet blowers are making a significant impact on the track. Alex Hayden says “we have plenty of daylight to get the race underway”. He also mentioned that Justin Allgaier (7) and Sammy Smith (8) were running on the apron, under caution, attempting to keep fuel in the fuel cells prior to the red flag. Former Cup crew-chief Todd Gordon and Alex Hayden are talking about a double rainbow visible over the speedway. NBC is now showing the rainbow. I don’t see the double mentioned by Alex Hayden. They’re also showing boat slips/houses/covers on a lake somewhere.
1838 the sun is shining in Michigan. It is now pouring rain here in Atlanta.
1839 the caution flag is out.
MRN’s Chris Willner says the 7 team say they will be out of fuel with another overtime restart. They are just trying to get to the white flag leading. Allgaier’s crew-chief says they can probably make it if he stays under fuel-saving mode.
The IndyCar broadcast was scheduled to begin at 1830 eastern. They’re under cation on lap 17.
Restarting on lap 126 of 128 with teammates Justin Allgaier (7), Sammy Smith (8), Sheldon Creed (18), John Hunter Nemechek (20), Noah Gragson (30), Taylor Gray (19), and Austin Hill (21) up front. Smith gets a hood out, then Allgaier takes the lead.
Justin ‘Little Gator/Dewy Alligator’ Allgaier (7) takes the white flag at 1845 eastern.
Carson Kvapil (88) gets turned into the outside wall and Kyle Sieg (28) is spinning on his roof down the trap. The car rolls back on its wheels in the infield. Chandler Smith (81) and Kyle Sieg (28) spins out and Sieg goes over on his lid sliding down the track.
Justin Allgaier (7) wins!! His first win at Michigan; the 25th win in his career.
Kyle Sieg (28) is out of the car and walking to the safety truck.
At 1850 we join IndyCar as they restart on lap 26 of 260.
The race was mediocre at best. There was a little racing at stage end, and more racing when the weather was close, and, of course, they raced in the overtime period. Out of 128 laps they probably raced a dozen or so, likely less than two dozen. That’s not a lot of racing. They had exponentially more fuel-saving laps than laps of racing. I am extremely pleased with the finish.
