Pole: Brandon Jones (9)
Outside Pole: Riley Herbst (98)
Stages: 45-45-110
Weather: Cloudy, 56°F, feels like 53°, Wind SE 6 mph, Gusts 9 mphRyan Sieg’s 39 car is engulfed in flames. He meets the safety truck running along the inside wall on lap 25 of 200.Blaine Perkins’ (29) car is towed away due to an electrical fire after stalling on the track under caution on lap 50 of 200.Justin Allgaier (7) wins stage one.
During his PRN radio interview from the infield care center, Ryan Sieg said there was no warning. He said he “saw a little orange on the crush panel” in turn one, “and then in turn two they said you’re on fire get out get out”.
On the FS1 broadcast Cup driver Joey Logano, who is in the booth, says there’s weather in the area on lap 53 of 200. They’re discussing that the race will be official at 100 of 200 laps. They seem to think they’re all racing to be in the lead when the weather arrives.
Corey Heim (26) pits on lap 85 of 200 under green. Heim is in the car for Erik Jones who was injured in a crash at Talladega last week.
Cole Custer (00) wins stage two.
FS 1’s Adam Alexander says the race is complete with the conclusion of stage two. The 00 team says rain is 15-20 minutes away. With Cup drivers Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney in the booth today, the race is listenable on television and since PRN is broadcasting it, television is the preferred method of listening. They’re losing their minds on PRN, but what’s shown on television isn’t nearly as exciting as what they’re screaming about. Shrug. PRN does not stand for the Preferred Radio Network for sure.
On lap 143 of 200 Cole Custer’s (00) team is estimating the rain will arrive on lap 150-160. They’re hoping the rain arrives before they pit for fuel.
Justin Allgaier’s 7 team tells him on lap 155 of 200 the weather is two miles away. Allgaier is in second position 0.241 seconds behind leader Cole Custer (00).
Caution is out for rain on lap 158 of 200.
The pace car is taking the field down pit road on lap 166 of 200 with Cole Custer (00) at the front for the red flag.
On the FS1 broadcast, Custer’s crew-chief said they’re pretty tight on fuel at this point.
The engines have re-fired and the caution flag is out on lap 167 of 200.
Justin Allgaier says it’s raining harder now on lap 169 of 200 than it was when we stopped before.
The 7 team, on the radio, is confused as to whether they can start on the outside lane instead of the inside lane.
Restarting on lap 172 of 200 with Justin Allgaier (7) and Austin Hill (21) on the front row as Cole Custer (00) pits while pit road was closed. Custer will have to serve a penalty.
Allgaier gets the early lead. He goes wide in turn four and Austin Hill (21) gets the lead.
Brandon Jones (9) goes for a spin on lap 173 of 200 bringing out the caution. AJ Allmendinger (16) bounced off the wall and into Brandon Jones sending him into a spin.
Justin Allgaier (7) pits from third on lap 175 of 200.
Restarting on lap 179 of 200 with Austin Hill (21) and Carson Kvapil (88) on the front row. This is Kvapil’s first time at Dover. Carson is former Cup driver Travis Kvapil’s son.
Austin Hill (21) easily gets the lead as Kvapil (88) spins his tires. Sheldon Creed (18) moves up to second.
Caution for Taylor Gray (19) hitting the wall on lap 184 of 200. Since the television broadcast had an idiotic shot from inside the car we have to wait for a replay to see what actually happened.
Congrats to Sheldon Creed (20) on the birth of his second son Pierce earlier this week.
Restarting on lap 189 of 200 with former teammates Austin Hill (21) and Sheldon Creed (18) on the front row followed by Kvapil (88) and Ryan Truex (20) followed by Riley Herbst (98) and Sam Mayer (1).
At the end of the 2023 season Hill, angry with Creed, said he was glad Creed was leaving for Joe Gibbs Racing. Those two seemed to have a lot of animosity between them during their tenure as teammates.
Sheldon Creed (20) takes the early lead.
Austin Hill (21) tries a bump and run for the lead, but Creed (2) hangs on.
Carson Kvapil (88) takes the lead on lap 192 of 200 in his second Xfinity series race.
Caution on lap 194 of 200 for a spin by Riley Herbst (98) with help from Allgaier (7) then Sammy Smith (8) hits the Kyle Sieg (28) trying to avoid Herbst in front of the Brennan Poole (44) who had nowhere to go.
FS1 is talking to Travis Kvapil who is watching his son Carson race.
Restarting in overtime on lap 200 of 202 with Carson Kvapil (88) and Austin Hill (21) on the front row followed by Ryan Truex (20), Sheldon Creed (18), Sam Mayer (1), Cole Custer (00), Chandler Smith (81), Justin Allgaier (7), AJ Allmendiger (16), and Anthony Alfredo (5).
Caution on lap 200 for a spin by Austin Hill (21) in turn two.
Austin Hill (21) pits on lap 205 of 208.
Restarting on lap 206 of 208 in double-overtime with Carson Kvapil (88) and Ryan Truex (20) on the front row followed by Sam Mayer (1), Cole Custer (00), Sheldon Creed (18), Justin Allgaier (7), Chandler Smith (81), AJ Allmendinger (16), Kyle Weatherman (91), and Anthony Alfredo (5).
Ryan Truex (20) takes the early lead in turn three after a door-to-door restart.
White flag.
Caution is out for a crash involving Justin Allgaier (7), who spun out in turn two, collecting Kyle Weatherman (44).
Ryan Truex (20) wins, under caution, for the second year in a row at his home track.
On his tv interview, Ryan Truex (20) apologized to the 2 for running into him. He said he ran out of talent to be honest and said shout out to Carson on his second race. He’s out of breath, said he held his breath those last two laps.
Anthony Alfredo (5) wins the Dash4Cash $100,000 with a ninth place finish.
The race was enjoyable in the third stage. Anticipating the weather the drivers raced up to the red flag period. Since the rain fell a bit later than anticipated that forced them to race after the red flag period, so there was good action throughout the stage. When Austin Hill spun out my excitement level rose dramatically. I was extremely pleased to see two unusual names on the front row for the final restart, both with a legitimate opportunity to win.
