Watching IndyCar at Barber Motorsport Park instead of the beginning of the Cup race. Ed Carpenter Racing’s rookie ChristianRasmussen spins with five to go. The field restarts with two laps to go. Penske’s Scott McLaughlin followed by teammate Will Power, leads Linus Lundqvist, Alex Palou, and Felix Rosenqvist to the green flag. Scott McLaughlin wins back to back Alabama Indy Grand Prix races. The Penske 1-2 finish may provide a small respite from the controversy overshadowing this week’s race due to IndyCar taking away the win and third place finish from TeamPenske for the St. Petersburg Grand Prix.

Martin Truex Jr. wins stage one under caution.

On lap 243 of 400 PRN reports the race groove is widening and it ‘should make the race better later on’. I guess that’s why FS1 was following Brad Keselowski (6) who is four laps down, not much racing occurring now. Almost every time I look at the television I’m seeing either a bumper or the track surface; basically anything but televised racing action. PRN is following the battle for the Lucky Dog/Free Pass – the car one lap down that will become the last car on the lead lap.

Kyle Larson (5) easily wins stage two.

Sitting down to watch on lap 343 of 400. I tuned in a little while ago – around lap 327 of 400 during lunch, but I started watching a local congressional election debate and found it much more entertaining, and so engaging I forgot I had been watching the race until I happened to see the leaderboard on my laptop screen.

On lap 389 of 400 Kyle Larson (5) is attempting to chase down leader ‘Desperate’ Denny Hamlin (11). Until about lap 380 of 400 the PRN crew were talking about the various cars who were moving over to let the leader put them another lap down. Basically nothing happened for the preceding 40 laps.

Larson has closed on him, but is about two car lengths behind as they take the white flag.

Hamlin finishes first.

PRN’s call of it is much more exciting than the on-track action since Larson couldn’t seem to get very close to Hamlin.

That was a waste of time. I’m glad I didn’t stop doing other things to watch it. I heard someone say last week that the engineer’s job was to make every race the most boring race possible. The engineers must have been in charge of that event. It was the polar opposite of yesterday’s exciting Xfinity series race. Yuck.
